Our Juniors resumed their delayed schedule with a home game against Southend United at Chadwell Heath. The Shrimpers had secured but one point from their nine preceding games, and it proved to be a comfortable morning's work for our youngsters to beat them 4-0. Our four scorers were Eamonn and Pat Dolan, Robert Keyes and Robert Mayes.

2 - 2 (Ablitt, Fletcher)
17 December 1983
Powell, Walker (Farrell), Paterson, Attwood, Dolan P., Reed, Fletcher, Ablitt, Dutton, Whitehouse, French (Woodrow)
Probably the most pleasing performance of our four teams last Saturday week was that of the Juniors who drew 2-2 against Swindon Town at the Wiltshire club's training ground. Some of our players had to come down from mid-Essex (having risen at around 6 a.m.), and then faced the somewhat lengthy journey down lo the opposing arena.
Although some had not previously appeared in this grade of soccer they fought hard against an XI which included three apprentices, and the 2-2 draw was fitting reward for much honest endeavour. Steve Fletcher and Tony Hubbard scored our goals; we led by 1-0 at half-time.

Riding high in the table, Wimbledon sustained a 0-1 reverse at Chadwell Heath on January 21; but for some unknown reason the result appeared in the Sunday morning press as a 2-1 victory for the South Londoners. However, it was later confirmed that only one goal was scored - by Steve Fletcher. So the young Hammers further reduced the margin between them and the leaders, and with several games in hand are still very much in the running for eventual honours.
