The Oxford United squad was much too strong for our under-17's in the fixture at the Keble Ground on August 25. The Hammers held down the margin to two at half-time, but were completely over-run in the second half to lose by eight clear goals. It was, We believe, our heaviest -ever defeat in this Division of the S.E. Counties League.

Although the margin in the home match at Chadwell Heath on Sept. 1 was not as wide, we sustained another heavy reverse as Crystal Palace Juniors netted five without reply. We have been including several triallists in these opening games, and the side is consequently far from settled.

On the same night as their seniors met Millwall here, the Juniors visited Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park for the first leg. After a goalless first half it appeared likely that the score would remain that way until the finish, but the home side netted 15 minutes from the end after a free-kick.
Nevertheless, our under-17's were confident for the return leg on Sept 17. and their hopes were quickly raised with two first-half goals netted by Ray Holt. The Glaziers fought well after the interval, hut we successfully staved them off to win the trophy. with Steve Haker making a trio of excellent saves in the closing minutes against a physically-stronger team

The Juniors' away match v Bristol Rovers last Saturday was played at the R.A.F. Ground, Uxbridge ; Rovers use this as a " half-way stage" to cut down long-distance travel by their opponents who are mainly located in the London area. We led by a single goal at the interval, but the home side balanced it up in the second half to share the points.
