The Juniors did well to win their first engagement on Aug. 19. They were two goals down at half-time to Oxford United at Keble College, but made a great rally to net three times and gain a 3—2 final margin. The scorers were Vincent Barnes, Adrian Keith and Martin Riches.

The first half of the match v Wimbledon at Chadwell Heath was evenly-balanced at one goal to each side. After the interval the game swung in our favour, and two further goals made the final count 3-1 for the Hammers.

A free-scoring Spurs' team hdd matters mostly their own way in the first half at Cheshunt last Saturday, being three up at the interval. The Hammers did better after the break, Billy Hall netting twice, but the final score was 2—6 against us.

The Juniors had a very easy 4-0 victory against Peterborough United at Chadwell Heath on Oct. 7, although it was not until after the interval that we added the final three goals. Man-of-the-match was David Barnes with a hat-trick, but altogether it was a good team performance.

We included three new signings in the junior line-up against Crystal Palace at Mitcham. Two of them - Richard Redding and Terry Ward - were among our scorers, and the other (Nigel James) also did well. David Barnes netted twice, and our other goal came from Ray Houghton (his second in successive matches). The result was 5-1 in our favour.

The Juniors improved their chances of honours by defeating Oxford United at Chadwell Heath as this victory enabled them to reduce the table-toppers' lead. The first half was goalless, but we netted three to the visitors' one after the interval.

A 4-1 victory at Wimbledon, coupled with Oxford's home defeat, enabled us to take over the leadership with games in hand at the halfway stage of our fixtures. We were three up at half-time against the Dons, and coasted to victory.

The Juniors went a step nearer to championship honours by drawing 2-2 at Stamford against Peterborough United. The Posh fought back hard in the second half to earn a point after being 1-2 in arrears at the interval.

Another drawn game was a disappointing finish to the home fixture v Chelsea. Andy Wallace scored in the first half, but the Hammers let a point slip as Chelsea equalised after the interval.

The concluding fixtures in the Div. II championship have produced some surprising results, and a 3-5 defeat against Chelsea at West Molesey was an unwelcome reverse. However, full points from the two remaining fixtures would see our Juniors gaining the title.

Our Juniors opened their Div. II Cup schedule with an away match v Spurs. They had a comfortable 4-1 Victory to get away to a good start in their five-team group from which the leaders gualify for the play-offs. Gary Elliott netted a hat-trick and Paul Allen a penalty.

Their concluding fixture ensured our Juniors winning the Division II championship; they required one point to clinch the title, and made almost certain by taking a 3-0 lead over Bristol Rovers by half-time at Uxbridge. The second half became a formality as the Hammers piled on the goals, and a total count of 8-0 was an effective finale.

A 1-1 draw in the away fixture v Chelsea, combined with Oxford United's defeat on the same day, put our Juniors in with a chance of qualifying for the play-offs. They are now on level points with Oxford, and have a better goal-difference of one. with one game each to play. Chris Fairweather scored against Chelsea, to equalise their interval lead.

Our group was thrown wide open by Peterborough's win two-weeks earlier, and they went to the top on goal difference with nine points. However, our Juniors won 3-0 at home to Chelsea, and went two points ahead of the Posh with a goal difference of seven in our favour and six in Peterborough's.
West ham United headed the table and will now face Crystal Palace in a two-leg Final. However, with both clubs unable to find a suitable date in the calendar for this season The final was deferred until next season.
The away 1st leg at Selhurst Park will be played on 10 September 1979, with the second leg taking place at Upton Park on 17 September 1979.
