Fog threatened to abandon this game throughout. In fact the referee conferred with his linesmen 10 minutes from the end wheather or not to continue. Portsmouth finished with 10 men - Buick had tpo leave the field. West Ham gained a 3-0 lead through Simmons 2 and Fletcher then had it cut back by Porteous. Blackwood restored a three-goal margin by Lee's final goal reduced it to two.

Wintry conditions, Kingsley, McCartney, Flynn and Simmons were unable to play. All the players had difficulty in keeping upright, the already frost-bound ground was covered with snow. Consequently the football never reached a very high standard. There were some awful shooting by the Brentford forwards before Fletcher with a diagonal shot along the ground putting them ahead after 10 minutes. After this West Ham delivered some smart attacks, and Whittaker twice tipped the ball over the bar from long shots, but half time came with Brentford still leading.
For some time in the second half there was not much to choose between the teams, but at length Fletcher scored cleverly, but just on time Carrick, with a fine left foot shot, obtained a consolation goal for West Ham.

Queens Park Rangers were reduced to 10 men when Bevan severely wrenched a leg in a fall and was carried off. Bridgeman made it 1-0 after 10 minutes. Kingsley had previously saved a penalty. From a corner Jarvis increased the lead. Bridgeman made it 3-0 after a mistake by Lyons. Collins brilliantly saved fierce shots from Bridgeman and Fletcher but a Simmons shot put Hammers ahead by 4-0. Fletcher got the 5th and last goal.

Wretched weather kept the attendance down. Hilsdon twice shot over before Simmons headed Hammers in front. Hilsdon then got the ball in the net but was adjudged offside. Half-time 1-0.
A fine run by Carrick ended with another goal to Simmons. Hilsdon then got three goals in a row to put West Ham 5-up, the last of which was struck so hard that Cartledge first caught it then dropped it over the line. Hilsdon scored yet again to bring his personal tally to four. Simmons, Carrick, Hilsdon and Hamilton were all prominent for the home side.

West Ham kicked off facing the wind but at half-time found themselves 3-1 up. McLaren was injured and Millwall were reduced to 10-men. After 20 minutes Jones placed Millwall into the lead. 5 minutes later Bridgeman levelled, then the same player put Hammers ahead. Simmons made it 3-1. Bridgeman was unlucky not to complete a first half hat-trick when his hard drive hit a post. Half-time 3-1.
Carrick scored to put West Ham into a commanding lead but it proved not so commanding as Maxwell reduced to 4-2 then to 4-3.

Playing at Fratton Park, before 6,000 spectators, Portsmouth easily beat West Ham by 4 goals to 0. both sides were below full strength. Although they were playing against the wind, Portsmouth pressed at the outset, and gained a first point by Russell putting the ball through his oen goal. S. Smith scored a second goal before the interval. After the change of ends, Kirby put on 2 further goals for Portsmouth. West Ham were rarely dangerous, Portsmouth having all the best of matters.
