West Ham United Reserves, who were so soundly thrashed by the Junior Reds at Plumstead a week ago, showed a lively recovery at Canning Town, where they danced round the G.P.O. Excelsior by 8 goals to 1. It was a very peculiar game. At half-time the visitors were leading by a goal to nil, after a most even contest. But, coming events were very clearly demonstrated by a particularly warm bombardment of the Post office goal just previous to the cross-over.

The goals, all obtained in the second half, were quickly rattled on by Hitchens, who was responsible for 4, Wallace, the old Caley, for 2 and Hone one, whilst another was from a corner kick taken by Fletcher. On the whole it was a very pleasant outing from a West Ham point of view, thought the Excelsiors can hardly be expected to share in the rejoicing.

Nearly 2,000 spectators turned to to witness this encounter. The Reds at once assumed the aggressive, Childs scoring within ten minutes of the start. A period of give-and-take play then ensued, each goal being strongly attacked in turn, and just before the interval an offside goal to West Ham was followed by a legitimate point by Kelly, and ends were changed with the score level. Both sides did their utmost to gain the lead, and fouls were of frequent occurrence, but as neither team could increase its score the game ended in a draw of one goal each.

With teams engaged in both the F.A. Cup and Southern League competitions. West Ham were only able to place a poor side in the field to carry out their London League engagement at Tottenham. From the outset the ‘Spurs had all best of play, and a very one-sided game ended the Hotspurs winning by ten goals to love.

Only 300 people saw the London League game between the Reserves of West Ham and Queens Park Rangers at Canning Town. No goals were scored by either side, and although West Ham had a shade the better of the play during the first half, the Rangers had a corresponding pull during the second. In the absence of Ambler, who was called upon to fill a gap in the first team, Hooper had charge of the West Ham goal, and in fact that nothing was recorded against him should count in his favour.

A big crowd patronised the Millfield Road enclosure. Although greatly handicapped by the heavy going a most exciting and fast game resulted. The O's had the best of the opening exchanges, and Ambler was called upon to handle twice in the first minute, and keeping up the attack the O's were rewarded with the first goal by Gibson from a long shot. Just after this Hilsdon had to carried off the field, for a while attempting to convert a shot from Gibson he cannoned the post with terrific force; but notwithstanding the disadvantage of playing ten men the Orient more than held their own. The heavy going seemed to affect the Hammers to a great extent, and they were never really dangerous, and if they did get going the Orient halves continually broke up their combination. The backs also gave a good account of themselves, and through their splendid play Ward only had to handle the ball once in the first half. Gardiner added the second goal after a good run down, and towards the close Corbett had a pot from the halfway line, the ball slipping through Ward's hands into the net.
