A left-sided defender holds the honour of being the youngest player ever to make a Charlton Athletic first-team appearance during the 1997/98 season when only 16 years 93 days old. Made his England Under 21s debut in February 2002.
Konchesky started the 2002/03 season in explosive form, scoring against Chelsea before he was controversially sent off. A Hammers fan and former member of the West Ham United Academy, he made his full England debut at Upton Park in a friendly against Australia in February 2003. His form deserted him and he was struggling to hold down a regular place in the Addicks team, despite some impressive performances he grew frustrated with not being allowed to play in the left-back position.
In the summer of 2003, he handed in a transfer request, saying that he needed to get regular first team football in his favoured position to help him push his way into the England squad. On the final day of the summer transfer window he moved to Tottenham Hotspur on an initial one-month loan deal, with Spurs defender Chris Perry moving to the Valley. Both players were keen to make the move more permanent, but the managerial situation at Spurs and the closed transfer window make that a difficult possibility.
However he was recalled just before Christmas as Charlton's injury problems, manager Alan Curbishley needed him as cover. He featured in almost every single one of the Addicks' remaining games of the season, and despite being linked with a move away from The Valley, Alan Curbishley wanted to hang on to the defender.
On 5 July 2005, Konchesky transferred from Charlton Athletic to the team he had supported as a child, West Ham United on a long-term deal for a fee of £1.5 million. “Konch” made his Hammers debut against Blackburn Rovers at Upton Park 13 August 2005 in a 3-1 victory.
He made 45 league and cup appearances in the 2005/06 season, helping West Ham to ninth place in the Premier League and to the 2006 FA Cup Final, where he scored when his cross went straight into the net but later had a spot kick saved as the Hammers went down to Liverpool on penalties after drawing 3-3 after extra time.
Konchesky lost his place in the first team during the 2006/07 season, making only 25 appearances, as West Ham slipped into the relegation places and only secured their place in the Premier League on the final day of the season.
On 13 July 2007, Konchesky signed a four-year contract with Fulham for a fee of up to £3.25m. In January 2009, he scored his first goal against the Hammers in a 3-1 defeat against his former club. Joined Liverpool in August 2010 and later played for Nottingham Forest (loan), Leicester City in July 2013 and then Gillingham on a one-year contract, he then dropped four levels to join Billericay Town of the Isthmian League and then East Thurrock United of the National League South.
In 2017, Konchesky returned to West Ham in a coaching capacity, before re-joining Billericay as assistant manager. In May 2021, he was appointed in the same role to the West Ham Women’s first team, and succeeded as manager a year later. On 28 May 2023 the club announced he had left that position.

Dean Ashton’s time in Claret and Blue was sweet, but far too short. A powerful, strong running striker who became West Ham United's Club record signing when he arrived from Norwich City in a £7million deal. Ashton managed 19 goals in 56 appearances for the Irons, before his career was ended early due to injury.
The striker joined Crewe Alexandra as a youngster and, under the watchful eye of Dario Gradi, progressed through the ranks to make his introduction into League football in the 2000-01 season, scoring eight goals in 21 Division One appearances. Having established himself in the Crewe side, he was promoted from the trainee ranks to full professional status on 2 February 2001. He left Gresty Road in January 2005, to become Norwich City's record signing at £3million. Thrust straight into the Premiership, he made his Canaries debut on January 15, 2005 in a 3-0 defeat at Villa Park and it was in his sixth game that he executed his first strike in the Premiership, in the 3-2 home defeat by Manchester City. He opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United and in his 16 Premiership games finished as the Canaries' joint top scorer with seven goals. After playing 46 games for Norwich, in which he scored 18 goals, before Club record transfer to West Ham on 22 January 2006.
Deano made his Hammers debut against Arsenal at Highbury in a 3-2 victory 1 February 2006. Ashton suffered a broken ankle while on England duty in August 2006, which forced him to miss the whole of the 2006-07 season. Returned at the start of the following campaign he went on to make 35 league and cup appearances scoring 11 goals, most notably an overhead kick against Manchester United. The striker started the 2008-09 Premiership campaign in blistering form, scoring both goals in the 2-1 home win against Wigan Athletic. However he quickly found himself back on the Hammers' burgeoning injury list after spraining his ankle in manager Gianfranco Zola's first training session. Ashton made no appearances in the 2009-10 season. On 11 December 2009, Ashton was forced to admit defeat in his battle to play on by announcing his retirement, aged 26. The attacker’s time with the Hammers is still looked upon fondly – by both the player himself and supporters everywhere.

JONATHAN SPECTOR

Born: 1 March 1986, Arlington Heights, USA
Signed: Manchester United
Date: 15 June 2006
Fee: £500,000
Debut: 28 September 2006, Palermo, Italy (A)
Last game: 15 May 2011, Wigan Athletic (H)
Appearances: 75/40
Goals: 4
International: USA (28 caps)
Released: 30 June 2011
Signed: Birmingham City
Date: August 2011

Born and raised in Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago, United States, Jonathan Spector joined the US Soccer Federation Academy in Bradenton, Florida, graduating in 2003. Capped by the United States at U16, U17, U20 and U23 levels, he started all four matches for the US at the 2003 FIFA U17 World Cup in Finland.
Aged 17, the youngster moved to England in the summer of 2003 to join Manchester United, a year later he made his debut as a substitute in the Charity Shield defeat by Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium on 8 August 2004, becoming the youngster American to play for the club. In November 2004, he made his full international debut for the USA, as a substitute in a World Cup qualifying clash against Jamaica.
Having totalled eight first-team appearances for the Red Devils in 2004/05, he departed Old Trafford in a bid to find regular first team football – on 11 July 2005 - signing for Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan spell at the start of the 2005/06 campaign.
Having impressed Addicks manager Alan Curbishley, Spector began to establish himself as a regular in the side at the turn of 2006 and went on to make 24 first-team appearances for the south Londoners. However, his dreams of appearing for the USA at the World Cup finals were crushed in April, when he suffered a dislocated shoulder that ended his season.
On 15 June 2006, the versatile defender joined West Ham United in a £500,000 move from Manchester United. Initially signed as a backup to the Hammers defence, he made his first-team debut at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in the 3-0 UEFA Cup first-round second-leg in Palermo on 28 September 2006, and had an extended run of games due to injury problems and his ability to play anywhere in the back four with equal ease.
Spector was re-united with his former Addicts manager, when Curbishley took over the reigns at Upton Park in December 2006. Playing for the USA he won the CONCACAF Gold Cup as part of the team that defeated Mexico in the final in Chicago in 2007, and went on to make 28 appearances for his country of birth whilst on the books with West Ham United.
The defender missed most of the 2008/09 season under new manager Gianfranco Zola due to injuries, but following the departure of Lucas Neill, he played in 27 of a possible 38 games in the 2009/10 season. Many of his appearances that year came at left-back, despite being a right footed player.
When Zola left, new manager Avram Grant began deploying Spector in the midfield. He scored his first goals for West Ham and his first in English football, scoring twice on a snowy night in east London in a 4–0 home win over former club Manchester United in the League Cup on 30 November 2010.
On 30 June 2010, Spector was released at the end of his contract and signed a two-year deal with Birmingham City in August 2011, going on to make 153 league appearances for the St Andrew’s club. On 24 January 2017 Birmingham City cancelled his contract by mutual consent and he signed for Major Soccer League side Orlando City. He played 38 games for the club over two years before signing a short-term contract with Scottish Premiership club Hibernian in March 2019.
On 11 August 2019, after a 16-year career in which he played over 400 games for club and country, he announced his retirement from the game.
