West Ham United U21s got their 2024/25 pre-season campaign underway with a narrow 2-0 defeat away at National League side Ebbsfleet United. The Hammers found themselves behind when Dominic Samuel netted shortly after the restart, notching from close-range after latching onto a Ben Chapman pass.

Ebbsfleet furthered their advantage on 71 minutes courtesy of substitute Kwame Thomas, putting the result beyond Mark Robson’s youthful and spirited West Ham squad.

Northern Ireland Super Cup

West Ham United’s U14s successfully defended their Junior title at the prestigious SuperCupNI, clinching victory over County Down in a dramatic final.

The young Hammers showcased great resilience throughout the tournament, going unbeaten and holding their nerve in penalty shootouts during both the semi-final and the final.

The SuperCupNI - this year held from Sunday 21 July to Friday 26 July - welcomes elite academies from around the globe, offering a platform where future stars can shine. First hosted in 1983 as the NI Milk Cup, the SuperCupNI is one of the most important events in Northern Ireland’s sporting calendar. Throughout the years, it has previously seen the emergence of England internationals such as Joe Cole, Marcus Rashford and James Milner.

“We love coming to Coleraine every year,” said Academy Manager Kenny Brown. “It’s a really well organised tournament that offers great experience for the young boys and an excellent opportunity to build strong relationships ahead of the new season.”

Commenting on the young Hammers’ exploits, Brown added: “It's a wonderful way to kick off the season. We’ll be closely monitoring the progress of this talented group and look forward to seeing their future achievements.”

West Ham United U21s were beaten 4-0 by Maidenhead United in their second pre-season match of the summer at York Road.

A first-half flurry by the hosts saw the young Hammers fall to defeat against their Vanarama National League opponents.

More positively, however, U21s lead coach Mark Robson was able to afford time on the pitch to every squad member, with 18 players in total getting valuable minutes in their legs ahead of the new season.

Maidenhead’s early pressure paid off as they stormed into the lead at York Road through Reece Smith’s close-range finish and a looping header from a trialist.

West Ham attempted to hit back, but the Magpies had a third before half-time through striker Tristan Abrahams.

Nathan Ferguson then added a fourth after the restart to compile the young Hammers’ misery.

The Sunshine State Tour

West Ham United’s men’s first-team squad visited the American State of Florida for the first time in the Club’s history in July-August 2024. During their stay in the United States, the Irons played two matches in the inaugural Stateside Cup against English Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the cities of Tampa and Jacksonville respectively.

The Stateside Cup is a new pre-season tournament featuring three English Premier League clubs created by Maryland-based international event agency Elite Promotions Group. The tournament will be played in three cities over a week between 27 July-3 August 2024 and feature West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Matches will be played at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, and Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The inaugural Stateside Cup trophy will be awarded to the top performing team across the three fixtures.

West Ham United’s Stateside Cup challenge endured a stormy start as Wolverhampton Wanderers triumphed 3-1 in rain-hit Jacksonville. The Hammers’ first of two Sunshine State Tour matches in Florida did not live up to its billing as a deluge of rain, thunder and lightning delayed kick-off for just over two hours at EverBank Stadium. Incredibly, the waterlogged pitch was cleared, the storm abated and the game was belatedly able to take place in front of thousands of grateful American Hammers, and supporters who had flown into the United States from the UK and elsewhere.

West Ham made a decent start, but it was Wolves who took the lead 18 minutes in when a defensive slip allowed Norwegian Jørgen Strand Larsen to set up strike partner Matheus Cunha to drive low past Łukasz Fabiański with a first-time finish. The Irons continued to play their possession-based game under new Head Coach Julen Lopetegui, but without creating much by way of clear-cut openings. Instead, both Aaron Cresswell and James Ward-Prowse fired free-kicks into the wall, and Maxwel Cornet sliced a volley wide. That changed on 44 minutes when a sweeping move saw Danny Ings spin into space and find Mohammed Kudus wide on the right. The Ghanaian sped away from Rayan Aït-Nouri, ran past Toti and slammed an unstoppable right-foot shot past Dan Bentley and into the net.

Lopetegui made six half-time changes, including the introduction of former Wolves player Maximilian Kilman. It was one of the starters, Cornet, though, who worked Bentley in the early stages of the second half. On 64 minutes, West Ham introduced for more substitutes, including goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, and the latter was called into action by Wolves replacement Tawanda Chirewa almost immediately, diving to his left to tip the ball around the post. Wolves boss Gary O’Neil made no fewer than ten changes at the same time, and his replacements would ultimately settle the game in the Old Gold’s favour.

First, on 72 minutes, Gonçalo Guedes raced into the penalty area following a turnover and, although Nayef Aguerd got back well to make a sliding challenge, left winger Rodrigo Gomes had raced forward in support and shot high past Foderingham with his left foot. Six minutes later, it was 3-1 and Gomes was again the goalscorer, timing his run and his header perfectly to power right-back Pedro Lima’s well-placed cross high into the net.

West Ham kept plugging and Callum Marshall saw a late goal ruled out as Michail Antonio was flagged offside in the buildup. George Earthy and Gomes each saw shots blocked – the latter by Kilman – and Chirewa also fired a first-time shot high over the bar, but there would be no further goals.

Lightning struck twice in storm-threatened Florida as West Ham United were defeated 3-1 by English Premier League opposition in the Stateside Cup.

A week on from being defeated by Wolverhampton Wanderers in rain-soaked Jacksonville, the Hammers were beaten by Crystal Palace by the same scoreline in Tampa, which is set to be affected by Tropical Storm Debby when she passes through the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday.

Again, the Irons conceded early, this time to Tyrick Mitchell within 30 seconds of kick-off, before getting themselves back on level terms by half-time, this time when Michail Antonio robbed American defender Chris Richards and ran through to score, delighting the thousands of West Ham fans at Raymond James Stadium.

Again, though, West Ham were unable to maintain the momentum they built up after equalising and conceded two more goals in the second half – on this occasion to Jeffrey Schlupp’s well-placed glancing header and Odsonne Edouard’s opportunistic run and powerful finish.

In truth, Palace were good value for their victory and it would have been by a wider margin had goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański not made at least four strong saves to keep his team in the game.

Mitchell struck early with an accurate right-foot shot before the former Poland international denied Will Hughes and Edouard in quick succession. In between, Antonio claimed a penalty for a trip by Palace captain Joachim Andersen, but the appeals were waved away.

The Eagles continued to get their claws into West Ham and Fabiański frustrated Edouard again before the east Londoners levelled out of almost nothing on 21 minutes. Richards’ pass was short and Antonio reacted quickly before striding through and shooting past Dean Henderson.

Julen Lopetegui’s side then enjoyed their best period of the game as Emerson fired over, Mohammed Kudus saw his shot deflected wide, then in a bizarre passage of play Vladimír Coufal curled a cross onto the post and Emerson saw his follow-up shot diverted just past the post.

To complete an entertaining first half, Jordan Ayew then somehow volleyed a yard wide himself when it appeared easier to put Palace back in front.

As it was, the Ghanaian did not rue his profligacy as the Eagles took flight in the second half, as a succession of substitutions disrupted their opponents’ rhythm.

Oliver Glasner’s side went back in front on 66 minutes when Ayew crossed from the right and Schlupp timed his run perfectly to get in front of Dinos Mavropanos and flick a header high into the far corner. And the game was over four minutes later when Nayef Aguerd lost possession, Eduoard won it, went past Maximilian Kilman and shot powerfully under Fabiański and into the net. There was still time for the 39-year-old to make another fine save, this time from Schlupp, before Luis Guilherme dragged his chance at setting up a grandstand finish across the face of goal after being played in by fellow teenager Callum Marshall.

West Ham United retained the Betway Cup with a 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday, after an entertaining 90 minutes finished level at 2-2.
Jarrod Bowen got the match off to a fantastic start as he scored the opener from a beautifully crafted Lucas Paquetá pass on six minutes. After largely bossing the opening 20 minutes, the Irons found themselves pegged back, as Mihailo was afforded space to bring the visitors level.
Paquetá was featuring in his first pre-season outing this summer and marked it with a beautifully lobbed finish after some fantastic play between him, Bowen and Michail Antonio on 34 minutes to restore the Hammers' lead.
In the second half, Celta Vigo again managed to pull themselves level, with Pablo Durán making the most of a ricochet in the box and slotting home to make it two-apiece.
Aaron Cresswell, James Ward-Prowse, Tomáš Souček, Nayef Aguerd, Maximilian Kilman and Luis Guilherme all converted in the shootout, with Durán blazing the final penalty well over the bar, meaning the Hammers were the victors and lifted the trophy.

Updated teamsheet issued just before kick-off naming Celta Vigo's No.26 Marc Vidal as their second substitute goalkeeper

West Ham United U21s concluded their pre-season preparations with a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Club NXT in Schiervelde Stadion, Roeselare. It all looked good for Club NXT - Club Brugge's Under-23 side - for the first 45 minutes as they held a comprehensive four-goal lead, but a defiant second half display from the young Hammers, spearheaded by the irrepressible Lewis Orford, saw West Ham almost complete a remarkable second half turnaround.
Club NXT U23s dominated the early exchanges and were rewarded after 20 minutes when Alejandro Granados swung in an inviting cross from the left and Kaye Furo flicked a header past West Ham keeper Finley Hooper. Just two minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage as Furo stooped to guide home Jano Willems’ cross before Liam De Smet stormed into the box and cut the ball back for Tobias Lund Jensen to make it 3-0 ten minutes later.
Lenn De Smet compounded the Hammers’ first half misery when he finished smartly beyond Hooper after 44 minutes. Into the second half, and West Ham looked rejuvenated immediately after the restart, with the difficult nature of the first 45 minutes prompting substitutions.

They reduced the deficit from the penalty spot through captain Lewis Orford on 61 minutes, before the Irons’ comeback hopes gained further momentum courtesy of Oliver Scarles’ stunning 20-yard free-kick.
Scarles then turned provider after 84 minutes when he found Orford, who got into the penalty area and shifted the ball to create space before powerfully firing beyond Axl de Corte. The young Hammers pressed late on for a leveller, but to no avail,
