FOOTBALL
French Version

Considered one of the greatest defensive players of all time, Bobby Moore earned the respect and admiration of the football world when he captained England in their first World Cup victory at Wembley in 1966. Football honours were not rare for Moore. During his career with West Ham, he captained the England Youth team, the England Under 23 team before making a record numberof 108 appearances for the senior England side. Moore was brought up in the East End of London and joined West Ham after leaving school. His potential soon flowered and he became a regular member of the first team with other well-known players including Martin Peters, Johnny Byrne and Geoff Hurst. His firm tackling and creative skills as captain inspired a clever side managed by Ron Green wood-West Ham won the FA Cupfinal in 1964 and a year later the European Cup Winners Cup. But Moore's major success was still to come-in 1966, England reached the final of the World Cup at Wembley against West Germany and won 4-2 after extra time in a thrilling match. Moore's contribution in helping England reaching the final had been enormous he was rightly voted Player of the Tournament.

Moore went on to become one of the four best back players in international football into the 1970s. In the World Cup of 1970 in Mexico, after a trumped up charge of stealing a bracelet in Bogota, Colombia, had given him a nasty scare, Moore's coolness under pressure against Brazil at Guadalajara was hailed as one of the finest defensive exhibitions of all time. Moore moved on from West Ham to Fulham in 1974 and captained their losing side ironically against West Ham in the 1975 FA Cup final at Wembley. Later he appeared in the North American Soccer League, with San Antonio Thunder, and in 1978, took up a post in Norwegian football.

Shoot League Ladders 1978/79
Publishing giants IPC Magazines Ltd first produced the renowned football magazine “Shoot” in 1969 which was arguably the most popular football magazine in the UK. Without a doubt, it’s lasting contribution to football wasn’t the magazine itself but was the infamous annual free gift, the ''Shoot League Ladders'', a massive hit amongst all soccer fans. Consisting of a thin card sheet on which were printed blank league ladder tables for each division of the Football League plus Scottish League. T-shaped "team name tabs" for each club (printed in the appropriate team colours) to be inserted into the slits on the ladder. The concept was that you would use the league ladders throughout the season and update it as each week’s matches concluded. As the 1978-79 season came to an end West Ham finished their Second Division campaign in fifth place.
