1975-76 South East Counties League (Div 2)

Six clubs are competing in the Junior Division; this is the same number as last season, but Southend United have been replaced by Peterborough United. The teams commence with the Cup competition which is on a league basis, followed by play-offs between the top clubs.

The Juniors are finding things difficult in this season's qualifying tournament, and with only one point from four games will have to improve considerably if they are to finish in the top four and thereby qualify for the knock-out stages which follow. Watford Juniors were comfortable 3-0 winners in our away game.

The Juniors had a disastrous morning last Saturday, losing by six goals to one against Orient Juniors at Spring Hill. We have two home games remaining "in the qualifying tournament - against Orient and Chelsea Juniors - and it looks as if our youngsters need at least two points from these if they are to qualify for the semi-final play-offs.

A 0-4 home defeat by Chelsea Juniors virtually ended our under-17's chance of qualifying for the semi-final play-offs, but as the opposition remains undefeated this season the comparative strengths were always apparent.

The Juniors concluded their schedule in the qualifying tournament. They had to beat Orient Juniors at Chadwell Heath by a six-goal margin to reach the semi-finals, and a first-minute counter temporarily raised their hopes. But the O's then took command, and eventually ran out as 5-2 winners.

With, only six teams competing in Division II, our Juniors' fixtures are widely spaced. However, they resumed their schedule on February 7, with a 2-1 victory over Orient Juniors at Spring Hill to complete a "double" against the O's and thus retain a chance of some honours.
