The Juniors lost by a single goal in the Div. II Cup league against newcomers Gillingham Juns. at Chadwell Heath ; a draw might have been a fairer result, but we were lacking in strength, especially the forward-line. This makes our present record one point from two games.

Our Juniors had a good chance to equalise in the last few minutes of their Cup group game at Chadwell Heath on Oct. 3, but in general. Crystal Palace Juniors were too strong for them. Bobby North equalised the Glaziers' opening goal to put us level at half-time, but they netted again in the 60th and 63rd minutes before Ray Isaac reduced our arrears with a 75th minute penally.

In the meeting with Spurs Juniors we were doing well lor the first half-hour, despite having to substitute the injured Gordon Darby after 35 minutes. The stronger and more experienced opposition had netted a goal after 20 mins.. and they really had no difficulty in holding on to this lead.

A draw would have been a fair result to our game v Fulham Juniors at Putney a fortnight ago, but although our youngsters tried hard. they could not equalise a lone goal netted by the Cottagers in the tenth minute.

The home game against Orient brought a fair result even though O's missed a penalty in the tenth minute, for the sides were evenly-balanced. The first goal came in the 69th minute, but we equalised eleven minutes later and with no further score it ended 1-1.

Our Juniors resumed their programme in the League tourney of the Cup on Nov. 14 with a visit to Mit-cham to meet Chelsea Juniors. As the West Londoners are among the four clubs who have already qualified for the Semi-Final play-offs, nothing was hanging on the outcome, so our 1-5 defeat counted for little.
Our youngsters played some good mid-field football, but had not the strength to push it home. The Blues netted twice before our counter, and though leading 3-1 at the interval, did not score again until the late stages when the Hammers were very tired.

There wasn't a great deal to get excited about in a goalless draw with Charlton Athletic Juniors at Chadwell Heath on Nov. 28. We could have won if we had taken chances that were offered, but overall did well to get a draw against a useful side.

The visit to Gillingham brought a better performance, and the Hammers had the pleasure of recording their second victory of the season. A 22nd-minute goal and another immediately after the interval made it look easy for us, but we had to fight to the end after the Kent club scored with 22 minutes to go.

Our "away" game was transferred lo Chadwell Heath, but although we had ground advantage against Orient Juniors this was outweighed by the physical difference in the opposition. Nevertheless, this was overcome by ihe Hammers, who won easiL-j ihun the 3 2 score suggested. We were two up at the interval, but although an "own goal " reduced O's arrears we Melted again two minutes later. The visitors' second came a couple of minutes from the end.

We are nearly at the end of the qualifying League tourney, but as our chance of reaching the Semi-Final play-offs was eliminated well before Christmas these matches are now somewhat of a formality from the competitive angle. Nevertheless they do provide a regular series of games, and fulfil the purpose of trying out young talent.
The game against Fulham Juniors brought an exciting 3-3 draw, a fair result according to team-manager George Robson. We led by a single goal at half-time, but the score fluctuated in favour of each side after the interval.

A single goal put our under-17's out in a First Round tie at Craven Cottage. It came in the first half, but we should have equalised before the interval when a header went over an open goal from three yards* range. There were other opportunities in the later stages to at least earn a replay, but the attack continued to disappoint and the evening was not one over which to enthuse.

However after scoring at regular intervals during the first half we turned round 4-2 in the lead. Two further goals were added in the second half before the home side gained a third a minute from time to end with the score at 6-3 in our favour.

The improvement of the past few weeks was not maintained by our Junior side last Saturday, and they were disappointingly defeated by Charlton Juniors at Eltham. The Athletic scored in the 50th and 55th minutes before Mark Cossey netted for Hammers, and they got another in the 75th minute to win 3-1.
