The Hammers beat the touring club El Shibab from Kuwait 4-0 in a private practice match at Chadwell Heath. West Ham used the match to give team pivot Alvin Martin further match practice following a pre-season injury which has kept him out of action to date. The El Shibab side is managed by former Arsenal and Brentford winger Mike Everitt. Nicky Morgan netted two first-half goals, and George Cowie and anto Otulakowski added two more after the interval. Alvin Martin had his first outing of the season and came through successfully.

Our Youth Team was placed fifth in the Easter Tournament organised by Ballspielverien 04 of Dusseldorf. In the group games we lost 0-2 against Bayern Munich through a couple of defensive errors. Missed chances cost us a win against Vejle Boldklub of Denmark, a goalless draw resulting. We then beat Union Solingen of West Germany through a goal by Dale Banton. An extra point would have qualified the Hammers for the Semi-Final.
Our concluding match was v FC Zurich; Banton netted another and Ray Houghton scored our other goal.
Our 16-strong squad comprised:
Paul Allen, Steve Baker, Dale Banton, Bobby Barnes, Phil Brignull, Steve Hibbert, Ray Holt, Ray Houghton, Adrian Keith. Everard La Ronde, Tony La Ronde, Paul Merrigan. Gary Moseley, Gary Pugh, Mark Smith and Jason Wright.
The officials-in-charge were Ron Boyce, Tony Carr, Dick Arnold and Dave Gladstone.
