TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Chadwell Heath
1 - 1 (Smith)
14 August 1971
Day, Yallop, Ellis, Dent (Webb), Kinnear, Brown, Oates, Taylor A., Smith M., Hart, Gregory
The under-18 side began in the S.E. Counties League on August 14 with a home game v Spurs at Chadwell Heath. Malcolm Smith put us in front with a header, but an " own goal" enabled the visitors to equalise before the interval. The second half was evenly-contested, and although scoreless, maintained its interest until the end. The 1-1 result was a fair reflection of the sides.
ORIENT
Chadwell Heath
4 - 1 (Smith 2, Gregory, Yallop)
21 August 1971
Day, Russell, Ellis, Brown, Kinnear, Yallop, Oates, Hart, North, Smith M., Gregory
Although our under-18's defeated Orient Youth by 4-1 at Chadwell Heath, we were not entirely pleased with the result inasmuch that the margin in our favour could easily have been doubled. We got one goal before the interval and really never made our mark until the Orient had equalised from a penalty after the resumption. This made our points total three from two games.
CHARLTON ATHLETIC
Unilever Ground
1 - 3 (Hart)
28 August 1971
Day, Yallop, Ellis, Kinnear, Marchant, Lock, Hart, Brown, North, Smith M., Oates
Our away game against Charlton Athletic Youth got away to a bad start when we missed two open goals in the first ten minutes. The homesters evidently took heart from this let-off, and came at us in enthusiastic style to be two goals up at the interval. They continued to dominate the exchanges and added another counter, but although we salvaged some "face" through a last-minute goal by Alan Hart it was a disappointing first defeat in the competition.
FULHAM
Chadwell Heath
2 - 0 (Gregory, Smith)
4 September 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Brown, Rands, Kinnear, Oates, Forbes, North, Smith M., Gregory
The Youth Team scored a couple of goals to beat Fulham at Chadwell Heath last Saturday, but might well have had a more convincing success. In fact until we got our second tally it was a little hectic, as the Young Cottagers were beginning to expect that they were in with a chance after all. However, a second- half goal made it safe to bring us our fifth point from four games.
MILLWALL : SECL Cup (First Round)
Chadwell Heath
0 - 2
11 September 1971
Day, Rands, Fulton, Yallop, Marchant (Carrigan), Lock, Brown, Taylor A., Coker, North, Oates
We had a quick dismissal from the League Cup, Millwall Youth defeating us in a First Round tie at Chadwell Heath. The Young Lions were far more aggressive, and when we let them in for their first goal during the second half, they took a grip which they never lost, securing a deserved 2- victory.
CRYSTAL PALACE
Banstead
1 - 4 (Brown)
18 September 1971
Day, Yallop, Carrigan, Russell, Rands, Kinnear, O'Driscoll, Berner, North, Brown, Oates
We included six ameteurs against Crystal Palace at Banstead, among these being Irish trialist Alan O'Driscoll. We tried hard and did well for Jimmy Brown to reduce the Glaziers' two-goal margin gained in the first half, but another couple of replies by the South Londoners put them comfortably ahead by 4-1 at the final whistle.
IPSWICH TOWN
Chadwell Heath
2 - 1 (Brown, Taylor)
25 September 1971
Day, Rands, Kinnear, Brown, Marchant, Lock, Berner, North, Coker, Taylor A., Oates
We had an interesting game v Ipswich Town Youth at Chadwell Heath on Sept. 25. A rather harsh decision awarded us a first-half penalty for a foul on Ade Coker, and this was converted by Alan Taylor. Jimmy Brown got a second after the interval, and although the Blues replied we ran out winners by 2-1, to take sixth place in the table.
CHELSEA
Chadwell Heath
1 - 2 (Brown)
2 October 1971
Day, Yallop, Kinnear, Carrigan (Oates), Marchant, Rands, Brown, Berner, Coker, Taylor A., Gregory
We held a half-time lead against Chelsea Youth at Chadwell Heath last Saturday, Jimmy Brown netting the only goal. Until then it had been a poor game, and the standard improved very little after the interval. The Blues managed to raise their standard sufficiently to press home a couple of attacks, and in consequence gained the spoils by 2-1.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Cheshunt
0 - 4
9 October 1971
Day, Carrigan, Kinnear, Taylor A., Marchant, Rands, Oates, Brown, North, Yallop, Gregory
Our Youth XI was doing well in the first 20 minutes against Spurs Youth at Cheshunt on Oct. 9, but then found themselves three down in five minutes after conceding a penalty. The exchanges then became balanced once more, but another goal with the last kick of the match brought the final margin to 0—4.
WATFORD
Colne Valley
7 - 2 (North 4, Brown, Oates, Taylor)
16 October 1971
Broadbent, Rands, Kinnear, Lock, Marchant, Fulton, Brown, Taylor A., North, Oates, Gregory
Our youngsters really "went to town" against Watford Youth, and after being 5-1 up at the interval went on to make the final count 7-2. Bobby North was our star performer with four goals in a game that was well reflected by the score-line.
WATFORD
Chadwell Heath
5 - 1 (North 2, Coker, Oates, Taylor)
23 October 1971
Day, Rands, Kinnear, Lock, Marchant, Fulton, Oates, Taylor A., Coker, North, Gregory
Having defeated Watford Youth XI by 7-2 in a Division I match a week earlier, the Youth Team played them in the return game at Chadwell Heath. The visitors did well to keep the score down to 2-1 at the interval, but we pressurised them in the second half and they conceded three further goals to lose by 5-1.
BRENTFORD
Ruislip Manor
0 - 0
30 October 1971
Day, Yallop, Kinnear, Rands, Marchant, Fulton, Oates, Carrigan, Forbes, Brown, Gregory
We met Brentford Youth at Ruislip Manor ground and were held to a goalless draw by a team much lower-placed in the table. However, it was a fair result and neither side could really complain about the outcome.
ARSENAL
Chadwell Heath
1 - 1 (Brown)
13 November 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Kinnear, Marchant, Rands, Oates, Taylor A., North, Brown, Gregory
We might have won by three or four goals against Arsenal Youth at Chadwell Heath, but it was not until after the interval that we went ahead through a goal by Jimmy Brown. It should have been enough to get us both points, but with ten minutes to go we presented the Young Gunners with an equaliser and a 1-1 draw.
BRENTFORD
Chadwell Heath
4 - 2 (Rands 2, Unknown, Unknown)
20 November 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Kinnear, Marchant, Lock, Oates, Taylor A., Rands, Brown, Gregory
We had a comfortable 4-2 win over Brentford Youth at Chadwell Heath on Nov. 20, although the West Londoners fought back well during the second half after being three down at the interval. Len Rands had his first game as a " striker," and his move out of a more defensive role paid off with two good goals.
IPSWICH TOWN
Portman Road
2 - 1 (Coker, Kinnear)
27 November 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Cossey, Marchant, Lock, Oates, Taylor A., Coker, Kinnear, Gregory
There was a good performance against Ipswich Town Youth at Port-man Road last Saturday. The homesters opened the scoring after three minutes, but we got an equaliser midway through the first half. The Hammers created a lot of chances after the interval, but although we capitalised on only one of these it was sufficient to earn full spoils; this goal was netted by Chris Kmnear who hit home a lay-back by Ade Coker (scorer of our first counter).

1 - 1 (Kinnear)
4 December 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Carrigan, Rands, Lock, Kinnear, Taylor A., North, Coker, Oates
Our under-18's gave a very good performance against Chelsea Youth at Mitcham. Chris Kinnear netted the goal that kept us level at 1-1 in the first half, both defences maintaining a clean sheet after the interval to merit a share of the points.

The under-18 side had a great win in the First Round tie played at Upton Park. After an evenly-balanced start they got completely on top of the Tottenham Hotspur Youth team, and ended as very comfortable 5-1 victors.
The Spurs were inclined to be "spoilers" and endeavoured to use their heavier weight to advantage. However, they paid the penalty of stringent refereeing, and Alan Taylor converted a penalty three minutes from half-time to put us two up, Bobby North having netted a fine ground shot seven minutes earlier.
Five minutes after the interval Len Rands hooked in the ball with his left foot from close in, and five minutes later Ade Coker converted a free-kick by Taylor. Spurs got a consolation in the 77th minute, but Gary Gates headed home from Coker's cross five minutes from time.
QUEENS PARK RANGERS
Chadwell Heath
2 - 1 (North, Rands)
11 December 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Rands, Marchant, Lock, Coker, Taylor A., North, Kinnear, Oates
A bumpy pitch made conditions a little difficult at Chadwell Heath last Saturday, but both Queens Park Rangers Youth and the young Hammers played a lot of good football. The two amateurs in our side each scored a goal, Len Rands in the first half and Bobby North after the interval. Rangers also got one during the later stages, but we were good value for the points.

LUTON TOWN

18 December 1971
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Carrigan, Marchant, Rands, North, Kinnear, Coker, Taylor A., Oates
Another win, this time against Luton Town Youth at Chadwell Heath, has taken our under-18's to fifth place in the table; we now have 22 points from 17 games as compared with Spurs' 26 from 16.
It was a good performance against the well-placed Luton side, our goals in the 2-0 win being netted by Bobby North and Chris Kinnear.

Day, Yallop, Fulton, Carrigan, Marchant, Rands, Gregory, Crossey, North, Kinnear, Oates
We played very well against Q.P.R. Youth at South Ruislip, and netted through long-range shots by Kevin Carrigan and Mark Cossey during the first half. In addition we had even better opportunities from close in, but failed to capitalise on these to make the final 2-0 margin even more decisive.

The match on January 8 was at Chadwell Heath v Reading Colts. The foot-of-the-table opposition offered little resistance, and it was almost a "no contest" bout as we won by seven clear goals.
MILLWALL
Langley Park
2 - 3 (Marchant, Oates)
Day, Yallop, Carrigan, Rands, Marchant, Lock, Kinnear, Taylor A., North, Coker, Oates
The game against Millwail Colts at Langley Park was disappointing, even though the final margin against us was by the odd goal at 3-2. The Young Lions scored once in the first half and then added two more against an indifferent showing by the Hammers. Stung by this margin our youngsters pulled up their socks and got down to business, but had left it too late to draw level.
CRYSTAL PALACE
Chadwell Heath
3 - 2 (North 2, Carrigan)
22 January 1972
Pye, Rands, Fulton, Carrigan, Marchant, Lock, Oates, Taylor A., North, Coker
Although twice in arrears, our under-18's fought back to beat Crystal Palace Youth by the odd goal in five at Chadwell Heath on Jan. 22. The score reflects a good game, and we were indebted to a couple of our amateur players for the goals, Bobby North scoring twice and Kevin Carrigan once.
GILLINGHAM
Garrison Ground
3 - 2 (Coker, Lock, Taylor)
19 February 1972
Day, Yallop, Carrigan, Cossey, Rands, Lock, Oates, Taylor A., Coker, Kinnear, Gregory
Gillingham opened the scoring in our match at the Garrison Ground , but Alan Taylor equalisednbefore half-time. Kevin Lock then put us ahead after the interval, but the Kent club fought back to level it up mid-way in the second-half. Had we taken our chances earlier on, the game would have been decided by then, but eventually we succeded in securing the spoils when Ade Coker made it 3-2 before the end.

Chadwell Heath

26 February 1972
Day, Yallop, Fulton, Cossey, Rands, Batchelor, Carrigan, Taylor A., North, Kinnear, Oates
After winning on the previous Saturday rayther more easily than the score suggested, we had good reason to hope that the return game with Gillingham Youth at Chadwell Heath would bring a repeat victory. This would have taken us within six points of teh leaders, with a gamne in hand, but we inexplicably failed to cash in on opportunities and ended up losers by the odd goal in seven after being two up early in the game.

The Under-18s unexpectedly dropped a point at Chadwell Heath to lowly-placed Charlton Athletic Youth team. The boisterous wind made it hard work for both teams, but we made it more difficult by not accepting chances to secure a victory after first-half equaliser.

Our last chance of Youth Team honours this season disappeared when we went under by 2-0 to Aston Villa Youth in a long-deferred Second Round tie of the Southern Junior Floodlit Cup at Villa Park. The delay was caused by the Midlanders' successful run in the FA Youth Cup, plus a Continental tour during the Easter period when they gained further awards.
A 3,5000 attendance saw us do well at the start, and we were level until after the interval. Villa's second put us well up against it, and although Bobby North later hit the post the Midlanders eventually merited success.

We resumed our league schedule against Arsenal Youth at London Colney. The Young Gunners are after a Division One League and Cup double, and the points they gained against us has almost certainly assured them of the first part of their ambitions. With the wind in their favour the North Londoners led by a single goal at half-time, and in continued adverse weather conditions added another in the second half.

Although a goal; down against Luton Town Youth in our away fixture, we were in with a chance of gaining some satisfaction. It then became necessary to use or substitute, and we suffered a further blow when Alan Taylor went off. This left us with only ten men on the field, and from thence onwards everything went against us to bring a five-clear-goals defeat.
