Practice matches serve a two-fold purpose. First and foremost it gives the opportunity for patrinising local and other deserving charities. Every penny taken at both ‘Practice Matches’ will be devoted pro-rata to local hospitals and numerous other worthy causes.
Secondly, it affords both the clubs patrons and players a new season’s introduction, a sort of get together meeting, where you can get a fair line as to the relative merits of our League Combination teams.

The “U’s” are settling down to a thorough understanding of each other’s play. This is becoming increasingly evident, as their victory was clearly established.
The home side were the better team in every department, particularly so in attack. The Hammers’ frontline was smart enough in approach. After that, their passing broke down completely. Chapman, their right winger, who on several occasions showed Walker a clean pair of heels, was the only man who seemed really dangerous. This game showed Turner in his goal-scoring role. He got Colchester’s second and third goals by sheer opportunism. This after receiving a painful knock in the small of the back.
United had most of the play from the start and inside 32 minutes Hillman opened the three-goal account. Following a nice movement between Carter and Curry, the right winger netted with a glorious first-timer.
Arthur Turner got the second on the stroke of half-time after Curry had forced Harvey to a partial save, and it was Turner who made it three early in the second half after Hillman had hit the crossbar from a penalty.
