Watching the friendly match was William 'Billy' McKee. Billy was 'Stones' goalie in 1910-11 and appeared for England against France a year later.
McKee was observing the performance of his nephew between the sticks for Leyton stone. West Ham won by 7 gaols to 1 but Billy later said that young McKee "would be much faster and sounder player than I ever knew how to be".
During the encounter a dog got onto the field and proceded to chase Hammers' Jackie Lunn. The dog was still barking and snapping at Lunn's heels as he manoevrered himself into a scoring position. With the best of intentions the refere chose that moment to whistle a halt to have the dog removed thereby certainly depriving Hammers of an 8th goal.
