Crystal Palace's second string were never in the picture against West Ham's Reserves eleven at Upton Park and were trounced by 7-1.  Jim Barrett held up the majority of their moves. West Ham attacked immediately, and within five minutes were one up, when Gregory deflected Kirkaldie's corner kick into the net for an own goal after Green jumped over the ball. Five minutes later, Green took a long pass and beat the advancing Palace 'keeper with a well-placed shot to put West Ham two up. Green dribbled cleverly through and Kirkaldie combined in a movement which saw the former shoot narrowly wide. Wood changed positions with Green in another quick attack, and the winger's shot was cleared at the expense of another corner. Just prior to the interval Barret handled in the area, and Waldron reduced Palace's deficit from the spot. The Palace attack livened after this success, but they did not again reduce the lead  before half-time. There was a comic scene soon after the restart, when Wood dribbled right through and lobbed the ball across goal. Toothill, running out, missed the ball and Kirkaldie pushed it across again, but Toothill met it on his way back to goal and dribbled the ball upfield to clear. Kirkaldie took a pass from Turner, and beat two defenders, centred the ball to see it hit the crossbar, Green, running up, easily netted to take the Hammers' advantage to 3-1.
A pass from Fenton, who beat two defenders, left Wood in a difficult position, but he drove the ball hard past Toothill to net the home side's fourth. A centre by Wood was handled by a defender and Barrett calmly scored, Kirkaldie scored the sixth and seventh goals. His last, the best of the game, was a grand shot after Green had spreadeagled the Palace rearguard.

The Easter Monday fixture attracted over 5,000 who saw the Hammers reserve string beat Watford by three goals to one, the visitors' point being the best effort of the match. West Ham should have been in the lead at the interval, but Barrett surprisingly shot straight at the Watford 'keeper from the penalty spot after a bad foul against Kirkaldie, who looked certain to score. After 20 minutes in the second half, Macaulay led the visiting defenders a dance, and his efforts enabled the home side to notch two quick goals. A smart dribble by the Scot and a neat pass to Kirkaldie saw the right winger centre across to Bell on the opposite wing, who returned the ball quickly for Macaulay to nod into the net. Two minutes later a triangular movement between Macaulay, Foreman and Wood resulted in the latter driving the ball into the roof of the net. The lead was reduced following a magnificent movement by the almost completely disorgainised Watford forward line, Johnson who was switched from left-half to the wing, dribbled along the touch-line to centre for Hitherton to shoot past Weare from well outside the penalty box. Ten minutes from the close Foreman scored West Ham's third goal from a difficult angle on the left wing. The Watford 'keeper handled the ball, but it rebounded into the net from the far post.
