The match between Charlton and West Ham at The Valley had been in progress abouth half an hour. The referee Mr. Albert G. Neale was seized by a sudden illness. A linesman, therefore took charge of the game. However, it transpired that within a few minutes of the arrival of the doctor Mr. Neale had expired in the dressing room. The match, in which both sides failed to score, was immediately abandoned.

Mr. Neale had been refereeing for about 25 years. He was however, once responsible for a most controversial decision in a FA Amateur Cup semi-Final. After blowing for a penalty he allowed play to continue. Farnfield scored for Clapton and Ilford were out of the cup.
He was also in charge of the match on April 6, 1918 in which West Ham recorded 11 goals against Crystal Palace, Syd Puddefoot scored 7 of them.

The Reserves were engaged in a very lively game with Millwall, in which no fewer than eleven goals were scored. West Ham claimed seven of them. The home forwards were in fine form, and although the Millwall defence held out for a time, goals came at frequent intervals.

Jennings again showed his marksmanship but scoring four time, Williams scored twice and Campbell once. West Ham are now third in the table with 17 points.

The Hammers second string had a severe disappointment at Tottenham, where before a crowd of seven thousand they suffered defeat by four clear goals. The Spurs Reserves were in great form, Lindsay scored for them in the first half, and Dimmock put in the second and third goals, the latter from a penalty, which Bailey, the West Ham goalkeeper, saved but could not hold, and Dimmock getting to the ball again put it into the net. Shea scored their fourth goal.

The worst game sen at the Boleyn Ground this season. Mann opened the scoring for the visitors but Barrett equalised. A Brentford defender 'put through' to give the home side the lead (although the Hammers credit the goal to Campbell), but in the last few moments Hampton levelled.

West Ham's second string hard on the heels of the Spurs in the Combination race, tripped up at Highbury being beaten by the Arsenal by 1-0 after a very even game.

Townrow scored the solitary goal in the second half. As the 'Spurs pulled off their game with the Rangers at Shepherd's Bush, by 1-0 they are now two points ahead of the Hammers.

This was virtually the London Combination Championship decider. The sides were first and second in the Division. Hammers had the upper hand throughout. Edwards troubled the visitors defence considerably and was always ready to shoot. Spurs gained the first corner but it was their goalkeeper, Blake who was kept much the busier in the early stages, he was forced to deal with shots from Cowper and Thompson.

Townley the Spurs wingman took on the job of watching Edwards but the Hammer still managed a shot at regular intervals. Edwards did get clear but when about to shoot the ball was taken off his toe's. Moments later another opportunity arose but Thompson shot was too high. Earle put the home side in front with a low hard shot. Cowper made it two when he shot through a scrimmage. West ham's thrird came when Fletcher diverted a corner into goal. In addition Hammers missed a penalty.
