This was a capital game, and watched by a large crowd. The opening was sensational, for in the first ten minutes two penalties were awarded, one to either side. Whiteman missed for West Ham, and at the other end Geggus saved a stinging shot from Boston. Two minutes after Geggus had saved Mackesy dashed through, and with a fine effort succeeded in scoring what proved to be the winning goal. Coventry were weak at forward, but their half-backs, backs and goalkeeper did great things, or else the home forwards would have run up a heavy score. Particularly noticeable amongst the home forwards were Mackesy and Butcher. These two inside forwards were always busy and dangerous, and big things will be heard of them yet. In the half-back line Woodards and Whiteman shone, although the latter missed another penalty kick before the finish, by crashing the ball against an upright. A word must be said about the display of Rothwell, the right back, who hails from Liverpool way. He kicked and tackled with fine judgement, and if he keeps on improving should soon be seen in the first eleven.

The Reserves, playing at Upton Park, defeated Northampton Reserves by three goals to nil. The ground was very slippery, and rendered accurate play very difficult. West Ham were much too good for the visitors, and but for many neglected opportunities would have won by a large margin. Morrison gave West Ham the lead early in the first half, and before half-time Whittaker, in attempting to clear, kicked through his own goal. Although having much the better of the exchanges in the second half, West Ham could  only score once, through Kennedy.

West Ham Reserves were at home to Woolwich Arsenal Reserves, and a capital game ended in a draw of one goal each.
Both teams were well represented and a good crowd of spectators witnessed a good contest. West Ham had the better of the game on t he whole, but the Arsenal were well served by their defence. The Arsenal scored first, Rippon giving Dawson no chance with a capital shot. Before the interval Shreeve equalised from a penalty. Following the interval West Ham put on severe pressure, but Barrett saved his side, and Shreeve failed with a second penalty awarded to West Ham.
