While the two first elevens were battling in the southern League at Upton Park, these two teams were fighting it the mud at Leyton before about 1,200 spectators. The home team had much the better of the exchanges throughout, but especially prior to the interval was their superiority manifest, Collis, in goal having practically nothing to do. Corners to Nicholls Junior, and Seeburg, from magnificent shots, nearly effected the downfall of the West Ham goal, but Dawson cleverly saved, and Lavery and Monney tackled and kicked in grand style, and half-time arrived without any score. The only shot of note at the home goal during the first forty-five minutes was made bt Cannon from the wing, Collis, however, being fully able to deal with it. In the se cond half play was faster and of a more even character. Cannon and Butcher were much the most dangerous of the West Ham forwards, but the home quintette threatened danger from every quarter - right, left and centre.
Twenty minutes after resuming Aylward scored for Leyton, following a corner. The West Ham nearly equalised on two occasions through Silor and Curtis, the latter save by Collis being a very clever one. Dashing runs from end to end hereabouts made the game very interesting, and with ten minutes to Nicholls Jnr., met a centre from Kingaby and crashed it into the net, putting the result beyond doubt. Just before the end Curtis got clean through, but failed to beat Collis, who came out of the goal, the ball rolling gently past and Leyton won the match by two goals to nil.
