Goals in each half from Erling Haaland saw West Ham United fall to a 2-0 opening day defeat at London Stadium to Manchester City.  The reigning Premier League champions took the lead on 36 minutes when Haaland’s penalty beat Alphonse Areola, with the French goalkeeper having come on after starter Łukasz Fabiański had suffered a dead leg.

The Irons had gone close through Michail Antonio’s looping header early on, while Declan Rice fired over from outside the area at the start of the second half, but the away side doubled their advantage through their new Norwegian No9 just after the hour mark. Summer signing Gianluca Scamacca came on for his West Ham debut just prior to City’s second, met with a loud standing ovation from the Hammers faithful in the record 62,443 attendance at London Stadium.

West Ham United fell to a 1-0 defeat against newly promoted Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s Premier League fixture.  Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game at the end of the first half, albeit in slightly fortuitous circumstances as Ben Johnson’s attempted clearance clipped the striker and rolled into the net.

The scoreline, however, does not tell the full story of the fixture at the City Ground as the Hammers saw a first-half Saïd Benrahma finish ruled out by VAR, before Benrahma and Pablo Fornals both struck the underside of the crossbar with second-half efforts. Forest thought they had scored a second through Brennan Johnson, which was chalked off for an offside, while the Irons were also awarded a penalty after a handball. Captain Declan Rice’s effort was, however, saved.

Gianluca Scamacca struck on his first start as West Ham United beat Viborg FF 3-1 in the first-leg of our UEFA Europa Conference League play-off.  After the Italy striker expertly headed in his first goal in Claret and Blue, Jarrod Bowen doubled the lead shortly after the hour mark.

At one point, a strike from Jacob Bonde teased a possible comeback for the Danish side, however, Michail Antonio restored the Hammers' two-goal cushion with just over ten minutes to play. West Ham will now head to Denmark for the second leg on August 25 with a two-goal lead to protect to reach the Europa Conference League group stage.

Alexis Mac Allister and Leandro Trossard both scored as West Ham United were defeated 2-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion at London Stadium. Mac Allister opened the scoring from the spot midway through the first half after Thilo Kehrer brought down Danny Welbeck inside the penalty area.

And while Aaron Cresswell and Declan Rice did go close as the Hammers pushed for an equaliser, Trossard doubled the Brighton lead from close range with just over twenty minutes to go.

Despite late headed efforts from Bowen and Tomáš Souček, the Hammers would fall to defeat in their 500th home match in the Premier League era.

West Ham United booked their place in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage by beating Viborg 3-0 in the second leg of our play-off round on Thursday night, securing a 6-1 aggregate success. Gianluca Scamacca got the scoring started midway through the first half, adding to his strike from the first leg, before second half goals from Saïd Benrahma and Tomáš Souček wrapped up victory.

It amounted to an ultimately comfortable night for David Moyes’ men, who dealt with the hosts enthusiasm – both on the pitch and in the stands – to stamp their authority on the contest and complete their task efficiently.

West Ham United picked up their first three points of the Premier League season, as Pablo Fornals struck a late winner at Villa Park. The Spain midfielder saw his deflected shot leap up and over Emiliano Martínez to secure all three points against Aston Villa with 15 minutes to play - and strike for the third game in a row against today’s opponents.

Ezri Konsa’s disallowed effort in the first half was the closest the hosts came to a goal, but West Ham stood tall to hold on to an important victory – their fifth in a row against Villa.

Aston Villa:

Martínez, Cash, Konsa, Chambers, Digne, Kamara, McGinn (Archer 90+1), Luiz (Ramsey 66), Coutinho (Buendía 66), Ings (Bailey 78), Watkins
