The U23s settled better in the early exchanges and enjoyed lengthy spells of possession in their first match of their pre-season programme. The Hammers were able to make the pressure tell in the tenth minute; a positive passing move saw Louie Watson pick up the ball in space. The midfielder played a sublime first-time ball through the Cambridge defence, leaving Sean Adarkwa one-on-one, and the forward made no mistake, rolling past Burton to give the U23s the lead.

The lead lasted barely two minutes however, when a clipped Cambridge corner wasn’t dealt with decisively and Liam O’Neil headed calmly past Trott to level the scores. A quick passing move in midfield saw Ben Worman surge through into the final third. The midfielder rode the challenge of Will Greenidge and fired into the net to give Cambridge United the lead for the first time on 50 minutes.
The visitors could have been further ahead not long after when Emmanuel Longelo was adjudged to have handled the ball from a Cambridge cross. Mullin stepped up, but the former Swindon Town forward’s spot kick was spectacularly saved by Trott low down to his left.
Cambridge had another chance to extend their lead at the beginning of the final quarter when a lofted free kick found Sam Smith unmarked, but Krisztian Hegyi was equal to it in the Hammers' goal and pushed it round the post.
Lead coach Dmitri Halajko would have been pleased with the performance of a less-experienced XI as the game edged towards its conclusion. A number of a second-year scholars equipped themselves well against the Football League opposition. West Ham were back on terms in the 113th minute. A swift counter-attack saw Forson released by Odubeko. The youngster flashed a shot at the Cambridge 'keeper, who could only parry out to the feet of Diallo, the forward finishing emphatically.
The U23s weren’t finished there, however, as Mesaque Dju reacted quickest to a lofted ball over the top. The Portuguese winger took his time, picked his spot and finished well to snatch victory late on.

Three goals from Sebastien Haller helped to secure an emphatic 4-1 victory for West Ham United in a pre-season fixture at Ipswich Town.

Tomas Soucek netted the Irons’ other finish, with the Czech Republic international’s header sandwiched between two Haller strikes in a frantic five-minute spell in the middle of the second period. Former West Ham striker Freddie Sears scored for the home side with the Irons leading 2-0.

West Ham took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Grady Diangana turned the ball to Haller inside the six-yard box, with the same combination leading to the Hammers’ – and Haller’s – second on the hour mark. Sears would strike just moments later before Soucek turned in Conor Coventry’s cross, before Haller grabbed his third after a defensive error.

West Ham United stormed to a 5-1 pre-season win at EFL Championship new boys Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday afternoon.

Coached by Alan Irvine and Stuart Pearce, the Hammers played some superb football at times, repeatedly opened up the home defence and were full value for their comprehensive victory.

With the wind and rain thankfully abating in time for kick-off, the Irons produced an eye-catching display on a beautiful playing surface at Adams Park, where Arthur Masuaku, Manuel Lanzini and Jarrod Bowen were among the scorers and 16-year-old Jamal Baptiste impressed on his maiden first-team appearance.

The Irons made a confident – and enthralling – start at their senior opposition’s home, going two goals up after just ten minutes through Mesaque Dju and Dan Kemp.

They continued to create chances at will and added a third when Kemp’s cross was turned in by Orient defender Sam Ling, but a raft of changes at half-time saw the home team in turn dominate the second half, netting through Lee Angol.

West Ham United Under-23s made it three wins out of three in pre-season with a comprehensive 5-0 win over a youthful Queens Park Rangers XI.

With both teams’ Academies now well and truly ramping up for the 2020-21 season, it was excellent wing play from the Hammers which led to all four goals, with Ademipo Odubeko putting the Irons ahead after 25 minutes and Harrison Ashby adding to it just before half-time.

A blistering start to the second half saw the West Ham development squad extend their advantage through further close-range finishes from Odubeko and Olatunji Akinola and a low arrowing shot from Emmanuel Longelo.

AFC Bournemouth claimed the honours in a high-scoring Betway Cup at London Stadium on Saturday, beating West Ham United 5-3 in the Hammers' final run-out before the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

West Ham recovered from falling two goals behind early on to level before the break thanks to Jarrod Bowen's double, but Bournemouth shrugged off that blow by scoring three unanswered second half goals through Dan Gosling, Adam Smith and Jaidon Anthony. Felipe Anderson came off the bench to score a third for the Hammers, but they couldn't mount a second comeback as Bournemouth claimed the trophy.

West Ham got off to a slow start and were punished with just five minutes on the clock. Bournemouth’s Arnaut Danjuma picked up possession in midfield, and made his way into the hosts’ box too easily, before shifting onto his right foot and slotting past David Martin. The visitors continued to look the more likely early on and they doubled the advantage before West Ham could respond. Smith played.a big role in the goal, racing through space in the left channel on 17 minutes before cutting back low for Dominic Solanke to make no mistake with a firm finish from ten yards. Manuel Lanzini was forced off on the half hour after picking up a knock, and his replacement, Josh Cullen, was involved in both goals as the Hammers hauled themselves level before the break.

First, he found Jarrod Bowen with a pass in behind the Bournemouth defence, and the forward held off his man to poke past Jordan Archer. Then, with 42 minutes played, the duo combined again, Cullen swinging over a sumptuous cross from the left for Bowen to plant a downward header into the net. The teams exchanged chances at the start of the second period, Sebastien Haller volleying over from 15 yards for West Ham, before Gosling had an effort blocked from a dangerous position at the other end. Gosling went one better with his next effort, re-establishing the lead for his team 12 minutes after half time.

The chance looked to have gone when Martin forced Solanke wide, and Angelo Ogbonna blocked from Billing, but the ball broke back to Gosling, who fired home via the crossbar from the edge of the box. Five minutes later, Bournemouth had another, Smith arrowing a fine right-footed shot across Martin and past his dive into the far corner. This time, the Hammers would not be able to find a way back after the visitors added a fifth on 67 minutes, again from the left channel of the penalty box.

Anthony was the goalscorer, bending his shot into the top right hand corner of the net, to give Martin no chance. There was time for West Ham to pull one back, Felipe Anderson glancing a fine header home from Robert Snodgrass’ inswinging corner six minutes from time, but Bournemouth had done enough to claim the Betway Cup.
