The Development Squad made the perfect start in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League by beating Reading 3-1 at Rush Green.

Paul McCallum opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, tapping home the rebound from Rob Hall's initial effort. The forward then got his second ten minutes into the second half. Hall twisted and turned before bursting into the box and crossing to McCallum, who dispatched the ball expertly into the corner.

Reading rarely threatened, but pulled one back in the 72nd minute, trialist Badirou made sure of the win for the hosts four minutes from time, clinically finishing over the stranded Jonathan Henly.

West Ham United's Development Squad strolled to a 5-1 Barclays Under-21 Premier League victory over Everton at Finch Farm on Sunday.

Fresh from a 3-1 home win over Reading in their opening league fixture, George Moncur led the way by scoring the pick of the goals, while Rob Hall, Blair Turgott and Paul McCallum also netted a goal of their own apiece.

Hall opened the scoring after four minutes and an own-goal followed five minutes later, with Moncur and Turgott making it 4-0 well before half-time. Johan Hammar pulled one back for Everton moments before the break but McCallum put any hopes of a revival to bed when he converted Moncur's powerful cross in the 70th minute.

The Development Squad fell to their first Barclays Under-21 Premier League defeat, losing 2-0 to Bolton Wanderers at the Boleyn Ground on Monday night.

Despite two consecutive wins and the likes of James Tomkins, Gary O'Neil and Alou Diarra in the side they failed to take advantage of their dominant possession and were hit on the counter twice in the second half with James Kelly and David Ngog the scorers.

The Development Squad earned an impressive 1-1 Barclays Under-21 Premier League draw against an experienced West Bromwich Albion side at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the fact the Baggies had first-team players Markus Rosenberg, Gabriel Tamas and Yassine El Ghanassy on show, the Hammers matched their opponents and the game ended honours even, with both goals coming in the opening ten minutes.

The home side started brightly and it was El Ghanassy who opened the scoring after just five minutes.

Their lead didn't last long, however, and Ian Hendon's side conjured the perfect reaction, equalising just three minutes later through the ever-impressive Rob Hall.

Both sides made changes in the second half as they sought to find a winning goal, but none was to be found as both sides had to settle for a point.

A 704-strong crowd watched West Ham United's Development Squad produce a dominant display to secure a 4-1 win over Arsenal at Rush Green on Friday evening.

The Gunners were previously unbeaten in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League but were second best for much of the contest as the Hammers recovered from a goal down to score a fine victory.

Goals from Rob Hall, Matthias Fanimo, Dan Potts and Blair Turgott secured the points that take West Ham level with Arsenal on ten points at the top of the Group 1 table.

The Development Squad continued their hot streak with a 2-0 win against Norwich City in Friday night courtesy of a looping header from Rob Hall and a low drive from Pelly Ruddock.

The away side settled the quicker of the two but it didn't take long for Ian Hendon's side to find their rhythm and with eight minutes played they should have taken the lead. Hall charged down the left on the counter, before leaving three Norwich players in his wake and crossing to the arriving Paul McCallum, who failed to hit the target from five yards.

Just two minutes later Hall showed McCallum how it is done. Matthias Fanimo broke down the left and found Dan Potts on the overlap who floated a cross to the near post where Hall sent a looping header over Declan Rudd. Jack Powell, who was a late change to the line-up, almost created a second West Ham goal just a minute after their first but captain Callum Driver was denied by the crossbar from 30 yards.

With 20 minutes gone it was still all action as Norwich almost drew level when Driver once again took centre stage by somehow clearing Aaron Tumwa's header off the line with Raphael Spiegel beaten. 64 minutes into the game the Hammers felt they should have been 2-0 up. Potts showed terrific vision, turning his man on the byline before pulling the back to Moncur, who fizzed his shot towards goal. The keeper was beaten and a goal looked certain but, just like Driver in the first half, Norwich had a hero of their own in Ewan McNeil, who stopped the ball dead on the line. Despite the Hammers' claims that the ball was over the line, their protests were waved away.

Norwich continued to struggle and were unable to break down the resolute West Ham United back line and Ruddock secured the points on 90 minutes, turning in the box before firing into the corner past Rudd.

Goals from Paul McCallum and Matthias Fanimo either side of half time were enough to secure the points as the Hammers maintained their position at the summit of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Group 1 table with their second straight clean sheet.

The hosts were the first to threaten, as a quick break saw a dangerous cross well cleared by the energetic George Moncur. Moments later it was the away side that nearly took the lead as Rob Hall's free-kick caused bedlam in the Rovers' box. Daniel Potts did well to find McCallum from Hall's delivery, but his shot was narrowly deflected over.

From the resulting corner, the Hammers took the lead as Hall once again supplied a perfect delivery and this time McCallum made no mistake, stooping low to head home.

Rovers came out fighting in the second half but despite their best efforts they were unable to cause Ian Hendon's youngsters any real problems. With 20 minutes remaining the points were sealed as the home side once again failed to deal with a Hall set-piece, allowing the innovative Fanimo to backheel the ball into the corner of the net.

The game began at a fractious pace, with both teams creating chances in the opening ten minutes. The Hammers were first to test their opponents when Frederic Piquionne latched onto Hall's through ball and left two Trotters defenders trailing in his wake before shooting just wide.

Just a minute later, the home side fired a warning shot of their own but Matthias Fanimo was in the right place, not for the final time in the game, to head the ball off the line.

After 14 minutes the Hammers went close again when Hall chested down goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel's long ball and lobbed Bolton stopper Rob Lainton, but the ball dropped just wide.

However, after an action-packed opening, the first half became an increasingly tense affair as both sides failed to maintain their early rhythm. The second-half could not have been more different, though, as both sides again came out brightly.

On 47 minutes Piquionne charged into the Bolton penalty area and exchanged passes Blair Turgott, but the Frenchman was unable to convert the opportunity. Eleven minutes later the Hammers' persistence paid off when Dan Potts won a free kick on the left touchline. Hall stepped up and delivered a perfect cross that dropped just in time for Spence to adjust and head the ball past Lainton.

Five minutes later the Trotters came close to levelling the scores when Sebastian Lletget's rash challenge on Marcos Alonso allowed the Spaniard to try his luck from a set piece. Alonso curled a superb effort against the post with Spiegel beaten and the Hammers escaped with their lead intact. Then, with 20 minutes remaining, Fanimo again cleared the ball off the line to deny Zat Knight an equaliser.

These close calls seemed to inject a new lease of life into Hendon's side and Hall almost made sure of the result, only to see his solo effort cannon back off the crossbar.

With just moments remaining Fanimo was again called into action as he cleared the ball off the line for the third time to ensure yet another three points for the Development Squad.

The Development Squad extended their lead at the top of Barclays U21 Premier League Group 1 with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton on a cold and blustery night at Rush Green.

It was yet another hard-fought contest on the back of Monday's win over Bolton Wanderers, but West Ham United thoroughly deserved the win earned through Elliot Lee's superb 69th-minute header. The teenage striker secured all three points when he met Blair Turgott's cross to send the ball looping over Toffees goalkeeper Mateus Taudel and into the roof of the net.

Centre-back Pearce shot the home side in front on eleven minutes following a corner delivered by former Republic of Ireland left-back Ian Harte, whose set-plays were a constant menace to the Hammers. Larkins was called into action a short time later, making a fine save to deny Aaron Tshibola before the visitors created their first clear chance. Unfortunately, Paul McCallum saw his header pushed to safety. Reading finished the opening half the stronger, though, with Dan Potts clearing a Le Fondre lob off the line before Pearce headed narrowly wide on the stroke of half-time.

Into the second period and the lively Lee shot wide before England Under-19 forward doubled Reading's lead at the second attempt on 56 minutes after his initial attempt had been kept out.

Having gone two goals clear, the Royals upped the pressure on their young opponents, with Dominic Samuel shooting wide, Le Fondre seeing another shot cleared off the line and Obita being denied by Larkins. Pearce then had a goal disallowed before former Rotherham United striker Le Fondre completed the scoring in the final minute, heading home an inch-perfect cross from Harte at the far post.

West Ham United Development Squad took a giant stride towards the Barclays U21 Premier League Elite Group Stage by winning 2-1 at Arsenal on Friday.

Goals at either end of the second half from Rob Hall and Paul McCallum helped the Hammers to complete a Group 1 double over the Gunners, stretching their lead at the top of the table to five points.

With three matches remaining, Ian Hendon's side are nine points ahead of third-place Norwich City, who have a game in-hand. One more victory should secure a place in the post-Christmas Elite Group Stage, where West Ham could come up against the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Liverpool.

West Ham United's Development Squad clinched their place in the Barclays U21 Premier League Elite Group Stage by defeating West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at Rush Green on Friday evening.

The Hammers won for the ninth time in 12 Group 1 fixtures courtesy of another late show from striker Paul McCallum (pictured), who followed up his late winner at Arsenal on 9 November with another last-gasp goal.

On Friday, he forward bundled home Rob Hall's free-kick with four minutes remaining to ensure Ian Hendon's side will finish in the top two in Group 1. McCallum has now scored six goals in eleven Barclays U21 Premier League appearances this season.

The centre forward's intervention came at the end of a game of missed chances. The Baggies started strongly, with Adil Nabi causing havoc on the left wing, but it was the hosts who created their first real opening on 12 minutes. Blair Turgott, who performed extremely well on the night, drove down the right before finding Matthias Fanimo but his drilled shot was blocked away to safety.

A youthful Development Squad battled hard but still lost out 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers in their final home Barclays U21 Premier League Group 1 match at Rush Green on Friday.

The Hammers had already been crowed champions after West Bromwich Albion beat Arsenal last weekend and, despite the result, the youngsters did well.

Elliot Lee and Frazer Shaw were particularly impressive but Hendon's side were undone by a spectacular free-kick from Diogo Rosado after 77 minutes.

West Ham United Development Squad ended their title-winning Barclays U21 Premier League Group 1 fixture list with a 3-1 defeat at Norwich City on Monday. With Nick Haycock in charge for the first time since his promotion from Under-18s coach last week, the Hammers were edged out at the Canaries' Colney Training Ground.

While the defeat marked a low-key end to the opening half of the campaign, it was tempered by the welcome sight of Jack Collison making his first appearance of 2012/13. As planned, the midfielder played the opening 45 minutes before being substituted.

The Wales international, who has been dealing with a knee problem, was to the fore in much of West Ham's best moves in the first half, setting up one shooting chance for Sebastian Lletget before heading Nathan Mavila's cross narrowly wide himself.

Norwich rode out the early Hammers storm, however, and took the lead through Tottenham Hotspur loanee Harry Kane on 25 minutes. The 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut for the Canaries against West Ham in September, finished a move that also involved Josh Murphy and Jamar Loza.

Collison was replaced by second-year scholar Taylor Miles at half-time, but it would not be long before Norwich doubled their advantage. Pelly Ruddock upended Kane inside the penalty area and Olumide Durojaiye converted the resulting spot-kick.

West Ham battled on gamely and won a penalty of their own ten minutes into the second period when Adel Gafaiti brought down Mavila. However, captain Jordan Spence was denied by Norwich goalkeeper Remi Matthews and, just 60 seconds later, Murphy fed Kane to make it 3-0.

To the Hammers' credit, they did not give up and Haycock's youngsters were rewarded with a consolation goal on 85 minutes. First-year scholar Mavila, who impressed in last week's FA Youth Cup third-round win at Aldershot Town, capped another promising display by netting a direct free-kick.
