MEXICO
1970 FIFA World Cup
The 1970 FIFA World Cup, the ninth staging of the World Cup, was held in Mexico, from 31 May to 21 June. Mexico was chosen as the host nation by FIFA in October 1964. The 1970 tournament was the first World Cup hosted in North America, and the first held outside South America and Europe. In a match-up of two-time World Cup champions, the final was won by Brazil, who beat Italy 4-1. With their third World Cup triumph, Brazil were allowed to keep the Jules Rimet Trophy permanently.
The Brazilian team, featuring Pelé (who was in his fourth and final World Cup), Carlos Alberto, Clodoaldo, Gérson, Jairzinho, Rivelino, and Tostão, is usually regarded as the greatest attacking World Cup team ever. They won all of their 6 games on the way to the title, and had also won all of their 6 qualifying games on their way to Mexico. This tournament saw the return of free-flowing, attacking play after the physical battles of 1962 and 1966, and is still considered by many fans to be the finest World Cup in history.

Series of 240 stickers. The collection is similar to the Fher one issued in Spain and similar ones can be found in quite a few countries
around the world. This one only has 15 players per team, so 240 stickers instead of the usual 256.
The players are named in the bottom panel of the sticker and the La Cibeles logo can be seen near the top right corner of each sticker.

usually published by D.C. Thomson. The only difference is these have to be cut out using a scissors.

The wallchart however only has spaces for the 22 members of the England squad. Issued as a single sheet.

In the 1970's and 80's, Dick Bruijnesteijn, a Dutch comic artist and cartoonist contributed a daily strip in many of the Dutch newspapers.
His most famous creation was Appie Happie (Appy Happy) a Dutch comic book series that started in 1971 with Dik Bruynesteyn as writer and artist.
The comic revolves around a football team called The Tough Tigers from the fictional village of Louloenersloot.

World Cup Coin Collection
Esso commissioned 30 coins depicting the England squad for the World Cup. The coins are made of solid metal, and were wrapped for distribution
through petrol stations. You were given one coin in a blind wrapper each time you bought four gallons of petrol, or two coins if you bought eight.
Two options were available for storing and displaying the coins. The free red card provided 30 slots to hold the coins. The blue mounting board could
be bought from Esso petrol stations for 2/6. The board was made of thick card and the coins pressed into holes.
Bobby Moore OBE
The giant petroleum company were left red-faced when it was discovered they had millions of the Bobby Moore coin struck awarding him with a CBE. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) instead of an OBE. (Order of the British Empire).
Moore was awarded an OBE n the Queen’s New Year’s Honour List of 1967.
Unable to recall the coins they issued the correct version in limited numbers.
