Although they lost this match at Upron park, West Ham made one or two interesting discoveries. The Professional Mid-Week League was inaugurated with the idea of trying out young players with seasoned professionals. Fulham's team was practically their London Combination side - at least they had no new player on view - by West Ham made three experiments.
E. Fenton, a local biy, who gained fame as England's centre-forward in international schoolboy football, was given the role of centre half-back. As he is a born footballer he did not fail, but against a strong Fulham attack he was rather out-manoeuvred and Finished very tired.
Almost the same remarks apply to E.J. Harris, a young left half-back. He started very well indeed, but could not hold Proud after the interval. It was experience only that turned the scales in favour of Fulham.
The discovery of the match was O.E. Tidman an outsode-left of Tufnell Park. Only 16 years of age he has a trusty left foot and a highly developed ball sense. He exploited the back-heel pass to excellent advantage.
Penn was the best of Fulham's forwards especially when he went inside-left. Wood having cramp R. watson of Park Royal was an industrious forager and always purposeful with his passes. Two goals were scored in each half, by R. Watson, Perry and two from Penn.

A goal by Read for Arsenal in the last minute decided the issue. It was a scrappy game devoid of any excitement. The only enterprise came from Lewis, Compton and Diaper. Phillips for the Hammers missed enough chances to have won the game long before the end.
