Played on a Monday afternoon this match ended in favour of West Ham by two goals to nil.
The West Ham team were much too good for Croydon, and had they played the long passing game instead of the close game against backs like Tait and Gardner, they would have won by a larger margin. The Croydon forwards could do very little against the West Ham halves and backs, and what shots Geggus did have to deal with he saved well. It was at the other end where all the goalkeeping honours were gained, by Walton, a young man who showed extraordinary judgement and ability under the bar. The West Ham forwards were always shooting at his charge, and during one prolonged siege upon the Croydon goal Walton saved shot after shot at close quarters very skilfully. The first incident of note in a fairly interesting game was a terrific long shot by Yenson, which Geggus did well to save by throwing himself at full length.
Ten minutes from the start Scanes scored for West Ham with a capital long shot, and by this goal they led at half-time. Following the resumption Morrison, who by the way is showing consistently good form at outside left, headed a second goal, but try as they would after this the home forwards could not again beat Walton.

The Hammers second string proved a good side in this match at the Vicarage Field, winning 1-0 at the interval, they scored two further goals in the fading light, and eventually won somewhat easily by 3-0, chiefly through better staying powers on the heavy ground.
The game commenced at twenty minutes to three. The exchanges ruled fairly even for some minutes, the first noteworthy incident being a grand shot by Curtis and an equally fine save by Joel. Hammond and Garland defended well for Barking, and Joel again saved from Curtis. Massey was good at half for the Hammers, and Woodards played a great game, breaking up several good concerted movements by Bell, Royce and Peck. Six minutes from the interval Kennedy shot well, and Joel partly saving it, but it was a very warm one, and Curtis securing from the Barking keeper put Wst Ham one goal up.
After the interval Curtis shot over and then compelled Joel to save again. After Bell had put behind a corner to West Ham resulted, but again Joel saved his charge. Darkness was rapidly approaching, and towards the end the professional side asserted themselves successfully. Meillear scoring a second goal with four minutes to go, and two minutes from time Morrison added the third point. West Ham deserved to win, but hardly by such a margin.

West Ham had the advantage of a strong wind, and at once pressed, Wilson in the home goal being early called upon. Eleven minutes after the start a squared centre by Meillear was smartly headed into the net by Waggott, without Wilson having the slightest chance of saving as Leyton were heavily handicapped by the wind, but were not long in arrears. Good work - the joint efforts of Nichols and Holland - gradulayy took play to the other end, where Busby was put into possession. He outwitted Bourne, who challenged him a drew Dawson out of goal and smartly netted, equalising the scores six minutes after the visitors had scored. Holland two minuteslater narrowly missed with a lovely shot, and King struck the bar with another. Play ruled mostly in favour of the home eleven until t he interval, Busby and Holland getting in capital shots, and Shreeve on one occasion robbed Busby almost in the mouth of goal.
The second half favoured Leyton, although the fine work of the West Ham defence in which Woodards and Shreeve shone, confined play for long periods to midfield. Waggott and Scanes shot badly when well placed, but Leyton for a time seemed done up by their exertions in the first half. An attack by the home right wing saw West breast the ball through, but the referee disallowed the point. Soon afterwards Morrison and Waggott broke away, the last-named scoring a second goal for his side. A hot melee in the visitors goal lasted quite a minute, but Dawson cleared, only to be soon called upon again. This time it was a header from Busby he had to stop, and mighty smart he was forced to be. Leyton kept up a desperate attack until the finish, but failed to draw level, and the visitors took both points by two galls to one.

West Ham defeated Barking by the same score as in the first match, namely 3-0. In the first half Hammond, at back and Robinson, in goal, defended well, and Barking kept their opponents from scoring.
In the second half goals were scored by Scanes, Waggott and Bourne.
Seven of the West Ham players were formerly members of South Essex clubs.
