Young hit the Leyton upright in the early minutes then Lindsay struck the crossbar. Young scored from a penalty after Busby handled early in the second half Leyton equalised but 5 minutes later Watson regained the lead for the visitors, when his shot went in off a post.
Cresser then missed a penalty for Leyton but Wood levelled before the end.

This should have been a double figure victory, but Furr in the Hitchein goal played magnificently. Francis and Eastwood both did well for West Ham and should be asked to play again. Francis got two of the goals and Shea another. A Hitchin defender turned an Eastwood shot into his own goal for the fourth goal.
