There was disappointment at the absence of V.J. Woodward from the Pilgrims side. He was unable to be present and the whole Pilgrims XI was but a shadow of the side recently (November) returned from a tour of the United States.
Winterhalder scored first for the Pilgrims and Pearce levelled Stapley shot West Ham ahead but Winterhalder restored parity. Stapley again put West Ham in front and Barnes increased the lead before half-time. From a penalty Winterhalder made it 4-3, Stapley then missed two open goals but found the net for 5-3. Wade shortened the gap to 5-4 before Stapley got his 4th and West Ham's 6th for a 6-4 result.
It was not a bad game but the winners were better together and a little too cleaver for their opponents - three of the Pilgrims goals came from a local lad Winterhalder who displayed considerable smartness.

Despite the wretched weather there was a good sprinkling of spectators at the Boleyn Castle ground when West Ham's second string entertained Felstead, and defeated them by the very handsome margin of six goals to nil. The Scorers were Hilsdon (4), Winterhalder and Smith (10).

The visit of the East Essex professional team drew a crowd of about 1,500 to Brigstock Road on Wednesday afternoon, and as the local club had obtained the services of several county players the spectators were rewarded with a very interesting game. Smith scored the only goal registered in the first half shortly before the interval. Afterwards the same player scored another goal ith a "surprise" shot.
Doggett had just previously left the field through injury. Just on time Ratcliffe beat Cotton, but the referee adjudged the goal offside, and the game ended in favour of the visitors by two goals to love.

Shepherd hit a post then White scored from the rebound. Almost immediately Shepherd got a second for Bolton when he ran through the home defence. Stapley was unlucky with a shot that missed by inches. A fine run by Leach ended with an equally fine centre which Shepherd converted to give Bolton a 3-0 lead.
With the score remaining 3-0 to the visitors an extraordinary change came over the game in the second period. Stapley was heavily charged and required treatment as did his aggressor Taylor, who was also hurt.
On the resumption of play a goal-bound shot from Fred Blackburn was fisted away by a defender. The penalty was converted by Watson who beat Davies the Bolton goalkeeper with a high shot. Blackburn had a hand in the next goal when his fine centre was put in by Bridgeman. A corner to each side proved fruitless, then Stapley dribbled his way passed three defenders' only to be brought down just outside the penalty area. Watson's free-kick was lifter to Stapley who went forward a few yards then returned the ball to Watson who netted to level the scores. Staley and Watson scored a further goal each to give Hammers a sensational 5-3 victory.

Friendly played at Upton Park in connection with the transfer of James Jackson to West Ham earlier in the season.
Played in very unpleasant conditions. A strong cold wind blowing clouds of dust down the pitch. Good football was hardly expected but the game proved interesting. Leyton had the benefit of the wind in the first half but it was West Ham who took the lead through Watson. Leyton's Featherstone equalised with a shot that went in off Jackson. Hilsdon struck the bar before West Ham's Featherstone got the decider in the last minute.
* There was a Featherstone playing for each side.
