BOLEYN CASTLE : Reserves
Castle Ground
2 - 3 (Groves 2 [1 pen])
3 September 1903

McDougall, Oakes, Kay, Brunton, Groves, Parkinson, Bridgeman, Smith, Dudley, Mercer F., Gadsden

Although advertised to send a full League team West Ham United simply sent their reserve string to oppose Boleyn Castle, on the Green Street enclosure, on Thursday, with the result that the Castle lads managed to snatch a victory by three goals to two. Mr J. Hammett kicked it off, and the opening exchanges were fairly even; but subsequently the Castled ones playing well together, monopolised the game, scoring three times before the interval through Shingler (2) and O’Conner. In the second half the Hammers shaped much better, getting the leather through twice, a penalty and a fine shot from Groves, but they were unable to equalise, and were beaten as stated.

Boleyn Castle:

Hayward, Gingall, Vittini, Marshall, Wood, Brewster, Burnie, O'Connor, Shingler, Bennett, Brewster

Goals: Shingler 2, O'Connor
