The fixture at Woodford was looked forward to with a fair amount of interest, the home crowd having the pleasure of seeing their team win by two goals to nil. Play all through was of a fairly even description, and individually United were much cleverer than their oppoents.

But whereas the Woodford team played a nice combined game, the visitors' front rank relied on single-handed efforts, and Renson and his colleagues had generally little difficulty in keeping their lines clear. Both goals were scored by A.G. Farnfield, Monteith having no chance, although he put in some effective work.

At the Memorial Grounds, United pressed almost continuously for the first half, but thirty minutes elapsed before they could get through. Then from a corner the Chelmsford keeper fisted away, but Gressam got his head to the ball and sent it into the net. In the second half West Ham still had the best of matters, points being added by Yenson and Hitchens, West Ham winning by three goals to nil.

At the Prince Regent Lane ground, Plaistow, United turned out a very strong team, including six players from the first eleven. Commercial had to play three reserves, and to make matters worse Jarvis, the right back, had to leave the field for some time, owing to a badly cut knee. In the first half the exchanges were fairly even, Kaye scoring the only goal for the visitors, though Moore had any amount of work to do. The remaining play was all in favour of professionals, and with Commercial Athletic hampered by the loss of the back United scored four times, running out winners by 5 goals to nil.

Fine weather favoured this match, at Leyton, yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, and eaually fine play contributed towards the enjoyment of the several hundred spectators. With the remark that West Ham won a fine game, which would have ordinarily ended in draw, the play can be dealt with. The visityors lost no time in attacking, and Stirling was called upon very early in the game to save his charge. Although Doggett and "Monty" Freeman put in several brilliant runs, there was a weak spot in the Leyton forward ranks, and consequently combination was out of the question. Perry, Fincham, and Oxspring did all they could in the defensive line, but were at length defeated. Hitchens opening the account, which was augmented Fair, then close upon half-time Kaye scored from a penalty, and Leyton when crossing over were three goals to love in the rear. C. Russell having sustained a slight injury retired, and hence the locals started with ten men, but playing with great dash were quickly within their opponents’ quarters. From a penalty Freeman scored their first goal, F. Read was responsible for a second one. Hard lines then became their lot, and eventually the match resulted - West Ham United, three goals; Leyton, two goals.

Heavy rain caused the turf the Sports Ground, Ilford, to be in a slippery condition on Thursday, when the above teams met before a moderate company. Ilford had a poor side, and in the end were beaten three goals to none. The game had only been in progress four minutes when Fenton opened the scoring, after Heath had missed his kick. This mistake on the part the home goalkeeper was the only one made during the whole game, and subsequently played magnificently. Though the visitors pressed severely, no further score was made before the interval. Ilford had a trifle more of game in the second half, but with the exception E.C. Porter, their forwards coold make little headway. Twenty-three minutes from the resumption Fenton put on a second goal for the Whites, and in the last minute of the game Reid again got through and West Ham thus won.
