1 - 1 (Bradshaw)

30 October 1899

Moore, Dunn, King, Dove, McManus, McEachrane, Craig, McKay, Joyce, Carnelly, Bradshaw

Johnson gave the home side the lead and Dunn almost gave away a second when he brought down Dickenson inside the box. May's sent his spot kick wide. Opening the second spell in aggressive style 'Irons' quickly won a free kick near the home goal. Carnelly's fine kick found Bradshaw's head and the English International nodded in the equaliser.

11 - 1 (Bradshaw 5, Carnelly 4, Reid 2)

6 November 1899

Sunderland, Grelby, King, Hird, Rose, McEachrane, Janes, McKay, Carnelly, Reid, Bradshaw

Played in mist this was a one-sided affair throughout, the visitors were outclased. Straight from the kick-off Bradshaw scored. The same player scored again to double the difference then Reid and Carnelly brought the total up to 4.
The home full backs completely dominated the visiting forwards and had plenty of opportunity to back up their own forwards. A breakaway brought Sword a goal for Grays but their joy was short lived for Bradshaw, Carnelly and an own-goal increased the Thames score to seven.
Durin the second half the Ironworks made rings around Grays. Bradshaw scored the 8th, Carnelly the 9th and Reid brought the score into double figures. Carnelly finished the scoring with his 4th of the afternoon.

BRIGHTON UNITED

Sussex County Ground

3 - 5 (Adams 2, Joyce [pen])

29 November 1899

Moore, King, Dunn, Craig, Bigden, McEachrane, Adams, McKay, Joyce, Carnelly, Walker

This match was played on the Sussex County Ground, Brighton, when Brighton United won five goals three. Twelve minutes from the start some excellent passing by Willocks and Malloch gave possession to Davidson, who scored for Brighton. Five minutes later Adams equalised, but immediately afterwards McArthur gave the home team the lead again. Davidson, from pass by Malloch, scored the third goal for Brighton United, and just before half-time Joyce scored for Thames Ironworks from a penalty given for hands close in. Changing ends. Brighton United led by three goals to two. Adams lost no time in equalising, and after some fast and exciting play Mercer put Brighton United ahead with hot shot, and five minutes later he scored again from a pass by Davidson. The Thames Ironworks forwards made several advances, but failed to break through. Mercer, however, was in grand form for the home team and narrowly escaped registering two more goals.
Goals: Mercer 3, McArthur, Donaldson

The result of this fixture was later made void owing to Brighton United resigning from league on Monday 9 April 1900 after 22 matches, all records were expunged from the record books.

Spicer, Farrell, Mills, Harland, McAyoy, Low, Mercer, Davidson, McArthur, Willocks, Malloch

The weather was bitterly cold for this match, and the attendance was greatly affected, not more than 500 spectators being present. Both teams were slightly below full strength, the visitors being without Bradshaw and Dunn. Frettingham kicked off for New Bromptom towards the goal at the furthest end of the ground, and Swan missed a fairly good chance of scoring for the home team. Joyce missed just afterwards at the other end. The play was tolerably even, and the goal-keepers did not have much work to do. Two corners to New Brompton were unproductive, but during a combined attack by the home forwards, Frettingham was brought down by King within the twelve yards' line and a penalty was awarded. This was successfully taken by Glover, Moore dancing about in front of goal, while the kick was taken, and failing to stop the ball, although touching it. A few minutes later Robertson let in Carnelly, who steadied himself with the open goal in front of him, and then shot outside. New Brompton pressed again, and Gray defeated Moore, but the goal was disallowed for off-side. Moore afterwards saved from Pangbourne, and Gray hit an upright. At half-time the home team led by one goal to none. The visitors were outclassed after the change of ends, and had to act almost entirely on the defensive. Pangbourne, with a splendid shot from a centre by Gray, increased the the New Brompton lead about ten minutes after the interval. Another goal by Frettingham was disallowed, owing to MacDonald being fouled just beforehand. Nearly all the play was in Thames Ironworks' territory, Gray being prominent for several fine centres. New Brompton could not increase their score, and they won by two goals to none.

Carter, Robertson, Glover, Innes, Atherton, Graham, Gray, MacDonald, Frettingham, Pangbourne, Swan

The players wore black-armlets and the flag at the gate was lowered to half-mast. It was learned Thomas 'Harry' Bradshaw captain of the club and a popular player had passed away the previous night.

Dull and threatening weather was the accompaniment to this match at the Memorial Grounds. Notwithstanding this there were quite 2,000 spectators present. The ground was in a terribly heavy condition yet the exchanges were very fast throughout. Under these circumstances it could hardly be expected that the game would be a scientific one for the light forwards had the greatest difficulty ploughing their way through the mud. Had it not been for an excellent display of goalkeeping by United's Ashcroft it is certain his side would have been badly beaten. He saved brilliantly on several occasions particularly in the last half. Otherwise there is little to remark with regard to the match which was stubbornly contested. In the first portion play was very even indeed the forwards on both sides doing excellent work. Try as they would it was impossible to penetrate the fine defence exhibited on both sides and as a consequence half time arrived with nothing scored.
On changing over Thames had much the better of matters and repeatedly compelled the visitors to play a defensive game. Ashcroft time and again prevented the home forwards from scoring. Towards the close rain fell heavily and as a result play deteriorated to a great extent it being almost impossible for the men to keep their feet. When the whistle blew for 90 minutes not a goal had been scored.

Joyce headed Ironworks into the lead after 2 minutes but Clements made it 1-1 in the 17th minute. Moore made an uncharacteristic blunder and dropped the ball leaving Kaye with a simple chance to the bewilderment of everybody present he missed it. Another error by a home defender this time Stewart the skipper, gave Chatham a half-time lead. Stewart misjudged a centre from Johnson and in attempting to clear 'put through'. Desperate attacks by the homesters penned Chatham in their own half for long spells. As hope faded McKay took a good pass from his partner, Allen, and levelled the scores.
