At this time Arsenal were third in the Football League Division II and for this match they fielded 7 players of the side that had been successful 4-0 at Darwen two days previous in Division Two. The visitors repeatedly broke away but spent long periods under intense pressure. Moore saved a stinger from Davis then McGeogh headed over. Ironworks were unlucky, they twice struck the bar and Hamilton saved another. All Arsenal's forwards took part in the move that brought the first goal by Hunt. Half-time 0-1.
On the restart Dailly shot wide then amended by scoring Arsenal's second goal.
From this point the Football League side dominated and Dailly put the three ahead before McGeogh scored a fourth just before the finish.

Whilst the first XI was at Brighton, a reserve XI entertained and defeated a London Caledonians side 2-1 at the Memorial Grounds. The Scots were at full strength and were thus far undeafeated in 1898-99 season. Reynolds and Sanson gave the Ironworks a two goal start and the 'Caleys' only managed to reply by converting a penalty by Gollan. It rained throughout this game and tempers got a bit on edge towards the end.

Thames began the match two men short. After 15 minutes both men Milarvie and Sheeran arrived. There was a fierce wind and heavy rain and after 20 minutes the referee stopped the game.
After an interval of 10 minutes the game was restarted on the understanding that it was no longer a Thames & Medway Combination fixture but a friendly.

An open date in Wellingborough's list was filled by a visit to Canning Town to play the Thammes Ironworks. The East Enders fielded a couple of the now defunct Warmly club players; G. Reid and Henderson.
There was no score at half-time, but Leonard started the goal spree by scoring in the 57th minute, then shortly after Reynolds scored what appeared to be a clear offside goal. It was allowed to stand despite the visitors protest. From this point on Wellingborough lost interest and just went through the motions. Further goals were added by Reynolds, James Reid and Henderson. Reynolds crossing was particularly good throughout this match.
